South Beach is definitely going to be the ‘hot spot’ as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012 descends upon South Florida on July 14th running through July 18th. This is the seventh year in a row for one of the largest fashion events in the swimwear industry.

Over 20 top international designers from across the globe are eager to take the stage to show their 2012 Collections to a host of over 12,000 journalists, photographers, buyers, models, celebrities and VIPs. The shows are “invitation-only” and take place on two scene-capturing runway venues, Cabana Grande and the Oasis. In addition to these tropical settings for the show events, there will also be a comfortable lounge area to sneak away in order to relax and mix and mingle.

Mercedes-Benz is the title sponsor of the 5 day extravaganza and they will be joined by American Express, DHL, MAKE UP FOR EVER, TreSemme, SKYY Vodka, The Raleigh, AriZona Beverages, Ocean Drive Magazine, California Apparel News Waterwear and Getty Images. This is an IMG Event.

MONTEGO BAY , Jamaica April 15, 2011 – It will be an evening of absolute nostalgia, accentuated by good music and good friends when the legendary Soul/R&B performing artistes, the incomparable Chi-Lites travel to the City of Montego Bay, for an exclusive post Mother’s Day performance on Saturday May 14.

The show, called ‘An Evening of Elegance’ and presented by ‘Dream Castle Villa’ in association with ‘Wi Deh Yah’ Productions, will be an ‘All White Affair’ and will take place at the Seawind Club at Montego Freeport, Montego Bay St. James.

The select performance will include veteran entertainers, Montego Bay’s dynamic vocal trio Ebony as well as the all male singing group, L.U.S.T.

The Chi-Lites, were formed in Chicago in 1959 when The Chanteurs which included Eugene Record, Robert “Squirrel” Lester, and Clarence Johnson, teamed up with Marshall Thompson and Creadel “Red” Jones of the Desideros to form The Hi-lites.

As the Hi-Lites they released a number of singles on local labels then in 1964 they changed their name to Marshall & the Chi-Lites; the ‘C’ being added to reflect the name of their hometown, Chicago. By the end of 1964 Clarence Johnson had left the group and they truncated their name to simply the Chi-Lites. During the ensuing four years Eugene Record slowly emerged as the group’s lead singer, songwriter and producer.

In 1969, after signing with Brunswick the previous year, “Give It Away” became their first USA national hit single attaining number ten in the R&B charts. The follow-up release “Let Me Be The Man My Daddy Was” was moderately successful but another major hit was elusive until “Are You My Woman ?” climbed into the R&B top ten in early 1971. A succession of top ten hits followed commencing with their next release “(For God’s Sake) Give More Power To The People” which was the first release to crossover into the pop charts.

The ballads “Have You Seen Her” and “Oh Girl” followed, both reaching number one in the R&B charts with “Oh Girl” also achieving the number one slot in the pop charts in the spring of 1972.

The Chi-Lites lineup changed shortly after “Stoned Out Of My Mind”. Creadel Jones was replaced by Stanley Anderson, who himself was replaced by Willie Kensey. Three top ten hits R&B hits followed – “Homely Girl”, “There Will Never Be Any Peace” and “Toby”, before Kensey was replaced with Doc Roberson.

The present day Chi-Lites line-up includes original member Marshall Thompson (leader of the group), Frank Reed, lead vocals), Fred Simon (tenor and bass), (from The Lost Generation) and Tara Thompson (background vocals). They were inducted into The (R/B Hall Of Fame) in 2000 and into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005.

In recent years, the Chi-Lites have been touring the US and Europe to rave reviews in the media.

One reviewer said “What I actually saw was a fantastic line up of Chi Lites that surpassed anything I had assumed. The sound they recreated was so close to the original hits all delivered with vitality and with a seemingly long lost skill of many present entertainers, that being the ability to actually entertain the audience.

The stand out tunes that got the most appreciative reaction from the capacity crowd were “Power to the people” “Have you seen her” “Homely girl” “I found Sunshine” “Stoned out of my mind” “To good to be forgotten” and of course “Oh Girl”.

Member of the Production team Sydney Reid says “the Montego Bay show is expected to be no less. It will be an awesome affair and patrons can expect to hear all their favorite hits that made Chi-Lites a household name in Jamaica.”

New York, NY (March 22, 2011): With the launch of their 23rd album Patriots, the Reggae Ambassadors – Third World Band – will premiere the album and perform live on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. The band will be joined on stage by Tessanne Chin, who is featured on the album and special guest, Donahue Jarrett.

The event, hosted by Pat McKay of Sirius XM Radio and Dahved Levy of Caribbean Fever WBLS 107.5FM, will be held at the Highline Ballroom located at 431 West 16th Street, New York, New York. Highline Ballroom, which has hosted performances of top billing acts such as 50 Cent, Esperanza Spalding, Janelle Monae, Monica, Pink, Talib Kweli, The Roots, among others, partnered with Third World Music Group and VicRae Inc. to host the event. Victor E. Lewis remarks, “The Highline Ballroom was an excellent fit for this event. The high profile venue ties in with what we want to accomplish – a stellar event highlighting the album and our iconic band, Third World.”

Kingston, JA: FOURTEEN of the most sought after reggae acts of the past decade, including current frontrunners Shaggy, Sean Paul, Damian Marley, Beenieman, Marcia Griffiths, Lady Saw, Bounty Killer and Wayne Wonder will do battle for the prestigious ‘Artiste of the Decade’ (2001-2010) award at the Excellence in Music and Entertainment (EME) Awards, set to take place on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at The East Lawn of the historical Devon House site, Hope Road in Kingston, Jamaica.
The very competitive category was established this year to honour the reggae artiste who had the biggest impact as a hit maker, performer and as a touring act, event founder and CEO Richard “Richie B” Burgess said.
Platinum artiste Shaggy stormed out to an early lead in the online voting (www.emeawards.com). Shaggy’s biggest success came at the turn of the millennium with singles It Wasn’t Me and Angel. The subsequent album Hotshot was not only certified diamond by the RIAA but soared to the top spot on the Billboard 200 and UK album chart. He scored again with Lucky Day which went Gold in 2002 and his 2008 album Intoxication, which earned a nominated for Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards.
Beside his on stage accolades, Shaggy has championed many philanthropic initiatives including raising funds for the Bustamante Children’s Home in Kingston. He also teamed with his peers on a tribute song titled Rise Again, which become the anthem in Haiti after the recent earthquake. In 2007, Shaggy’s musical accomplishment was recognised by the Government of Jamaica when he was awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD).
Another frontrunner for the Artiste of the Decade award is Beenieman. He may not have the international record sales of Damian, Shaggy or Sean Paul, however, he has the streets locked and is arguably the most seasoned and accomplished entertainer in the industry. His album on Virgin Records, Art and Life was certified gold and won him the Grammy for Reggae Album of the Year in 2001. On stage the ‘Doctor’ has enjoyed many exceptional live performances including his memorable set at Reggae Sumfest 2008 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, that some say, firmly established him as the “King of the Dancehall”. On the local charts, Beenieman has had an impressive catalogue of hits including his current chart banger Rum and Red Bull and he continues to have a major presence at all the major reggae festivals around the world.
Wayne Wonder, born Von Wayne Charles, recorded Bonafide Love (Movie Star) with Buju Banton, and wrote several early hits for the cultural DJ early in his career. In 2000, Wonder launched his own record label, Singso, and collaborated with international artistes, Foxy Brown, and Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes. His career achieved internationally success in 2003 with his Atlantic Records single No Letting Go. The single reached #11 in the US and #3 in the UK and was a major success on urban radio stations in the US.
Jr Gong Marley created mayhem in 2006 with his monster hit Welcome to Jamrock. The song sat atop charts in Jamaica, Europe, and Canada and created just as much fever state side, enjoying multiple spins on urban radio stations and cable channels like BET, MTV and VH1 TV. When the album was released in September 2005, it shot to #7 on the sales charts, making it the biggest opening for a reggae artiste in history. Two days after the 61st anniversary of his father’s birth, Gong claimed another first when he became the first Jamaican artiste to win two Grammy awards at the same show — the Best Reggae Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance in the R&B category.
Sean Paul, who enjoyed unprecedented album sales with his debut album, Stage One in 2000, has had a string of successes including his song Gimme the Light that was a huge hit, and the multi-platinum album, Dutty Rock (2002), which earned him a Grammy award. Paul followed up with The Trinity in 2005, which also went platinum and won the American Music Award for Favourite Pop/Rock Male Artiste in 2006.
One only has to hear the punch line from monster tracks like — She Loves Me Now, Step Aside, Tempted To Touch, Rockaway, Double Trouble, Putting Up Resistance or One Step Ahead to know that the “boss,” Beres Hammond is in the house. On stage, whether it is at home in Jamaica or major markets like New York, Florida or London, Beres is in a class by himself.
The name Marcia Griffiths has always been associated with excellence. Dubbed the Queen of reggae music, Marcia has in the past decade, established herself as an Ambassador of Jamaican music. An original member of Bob Marley’s legendary harmony singers, Marcia is credited with recording a number of big hits songs including Dreamland, I Shall Sing and the perennial favourite Electric Boogie.
For the past 10 years, Grammy-nominated Bounty Killer has made a career of bussing young artistes such as Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Elephant Man and several members of his Alliance crew. He is a fearless performer who has waged numerous on-stage battles with his arch nemesis Beenieman. On the international scene, Bounty made his biggest mark in 2001 with a successful collaboration with No Doubt on the single Hey Baby. He also enjoy solo successes with albums such as Ghetto Dictionary Volume I: Art of War and Ghetto Dictionary Volume II: Mystery, the latter receiving a Grammy nomination.
Dancehall Queen Lady Saw is an accomplished international star who has the distinction of being the first female deejay to win a Grammy Award. Her international exploits also includes a gold certification for the single Smile with Vitamin C, a triple-platinum certification for Underneath It All for her 2003 collaboration with No Doubt. She has also earned a well-deserved Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Duo or Group for her featured performance on No Doubt’s single Underneath It All, which reached number #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

BROOKLYN’S SEASIDE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES AND MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CONCERT SERIES SET TO ONCE AGAIN THRILL MUSIC FANS!
New York’s largest free outdoor music series will feature Aretha Franklin, George Clinton, John Legend, the B-52s, Toni Braxton, Sean Paul, Salt-N-Pepa, Beach Boys

Beginning July 12 and through August 26, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will host the 32nd annual Seaside Summer Concert Series at Asser Levy/Seaside Park and the 28th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series at Wingate Field in Crown Heights/Central Brooklyn (full concert lineups below).

For more than twenty years, while he was State Senator, Marty Markowitz worked along with the Seaside Summer Concert Series and the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series to bring some of the best live entertainment to Brooklyn. Now as Brooklyn Borough President, he continues to host the concerts that have entertained hundreds of thousands of residents over the years and remain the largest free concert series in the New York Metropolitan area.

“Brooklyn is proud home to everyone from everywhere, so there is no better place in the world to enjoy music—the universal language,” said BP Markowitz. “That’s why I have been so proud to host free concerts at Coney Island for more than three decades, and in Central Brooklyn for 28 years. From Seaside’s stellar lineup of Neil Sedaka, the Beach Boys and the B-52s, to MLK’s George Clinton, Toni Braxton, and Sean Paul—not to mention a chance to catch the first lady of soul, Aretha Franklin, at both concert series—Brooklyn is once again the place to be for hot fun in the summertime.”

The Seaside Summer Concert Series is the largest free outdoor music series in New York. Throughout the years, the Thursday night series has attracted top name classic rock, pop, oldies, contemporary and Latin performers to Asser Levy/Seaside Park, at West 5th Avenue and Surf Avenue in Coney Island. Chair rentals will be available for $5, or concertgoers can bring their own chairs.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert Series is celebrating its spectacular season with a star-studded lineup of gospel, classic soul, contemporary, Caribbean and R&B artists. The free concerts are Monday nights at Wingate Field, entrances on Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street. Seating is limited so attendees should bring chairs.

The king of Jamaican reggae plays alongside roots newcomers from South Carolina and Burkina Faso.
Jimmy Cliff is the world’s the best-known living Jamaican reggae musician and songwriter. He is generally credited for helping popularize the genre internationally with his soundtrack to the movie The Harder They Come, in which he also starred. His many hits include “Sitting In Limbo,” “You Can Get It If You Really Want” and “Many Rivers to Cross” and the now classic covers of “Wild World” and “I Can See Clearly Now.” He was recently inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and holds The Order of Merit, the highest honor granted by the Jamaican government for achievements in the arts.
Trevor Hall, a native of South Carolina, has been writing and performing since he was fourteen years old. His unconventional mix of acoustic rock and reggae serves as a vibrant backdrop for thought-provoking, inspiring lyrics, which he delivers in a uniquely soulful voice. Of his self-titled 2009 album, Rolling Stone says, “Trevor Hall fills his third album with spiritually inclined roots jams.”
For more than thirty years, Victor Démé has performed his soulful blend of rootsy African blues in bars and clubs of his home town of Ouagadougou, the capital of the landlocked West African nation of Burkina Faso. His heartful vocals evoke the struggle of a hard lived life, but also the confidence and wisdom of a man who comes from the griot tradition and spends his life honing his craft. Having already won acclaim throughout Europe, this is his US debut. But it wasn’t until the intervention of a French journalist and local hip-hop club promoter that he was able to record his first album of all original material. In 2009, his self-titled debut of rootsy blues gems was finally released internationally.

Usher Confirmed For Reggae Sumfest 2010, July 17-24, 2010, Mo Bay, Jamaica

Jamaica’s premier summer music event Reggae Sumfest, is again living up to its reputation of delivering only the finest acts, by bringing one of the music industry’s most celebrated pop stars, Usher, to this year’s 18th staging.

The International R&B star has been confirmed as a performer to take the stage at the show which runs in Catherine Hall, St. James between July 17 and 24.

Usher will join a cast of fellow performing giants such as Chris Brown, Beenie Man, Shaggy, Bounty Killer, Mavado, Tarrus Riley, Queen Ifrica, Jah Cure among others.

Though not his first local performance, Usher has been on a phenomenal streak in recent times, with memorable music and electrifying performances. His latest album Raymond V. Raymond which was released on March 30 this year, debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200 charts. His latest single OMG featuring Will.I.Am is also currently blazing the airwaves, clubs and parties across the world.

This is only his latest crown in a career decorated with accomplishments. Usher has won 5 Grammy awards, 8 Soul Train Awards, and 19 Billboard Music Awards.

He made his musical debut in 1994 with the single Think of You but it was not until 1997 that Usher gained popularity with the hit song My Way. Since then, he has turned into a virtual hit-maker.

In 2001 Usher released the album 8701, which went four times platinum riding on the success of hit singles such as U Remind Me and U Got It Bad. In 2004 Confessions sold over 10 million copies in the US. It was ranked as grossing the highest sales in the first week for an R&B artiste in history. Subsequently, the album sold 20 million copies worldwide and was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2008, his album Here I Stand sold over 5 million copies worldwide and was certified platinum.

In addition to Usher’s recording feats, he is also known for his talent on the stage, and on the screen. Usher appeared in the 1998 film The Faculty and a year later She’s All That. As a Humanitarian, Usher founded New Look, a non-profit organization that seeks to give young people a ‘new look’ on life through the use of education and real life experiences as the incentive.

With a string of accolades and awards, there is no doubt Usher will add considerable value to an army of stars now billed for the greatest summer Festival in Jamaica.

USAIN BOLT WITHDRAWS FROM ADIDAS GRAND PRIX
Bolt’s management team cites recent injury

NEW YORK (May 31, 2010) — Double Olympic and World champion Usain Bolt has withdrawn from the adidas Grand Prix due to injury, organizers announced Monday.

Organizers were notified on Monday afternoon by Bolt’s management team that Bolt is suffering from an inflammation of his tendon. He provided the following statement:

“I developed a stiffness in my Achilles tendon last week and sought medical attention. After careful consultation with Dr. Hans Müller-Wohlfahrt at his clinic in Munich, I have been advised to take a 2-3 week break as a precautionary measure to avoid risking further damage. Regrettably I will have to miss the IAAF Diamond League meeting in New York on Saturday, June 12. I am well aware of the disappointment for the fans in New York and around the world, but I hope to return to New York as soon as possible.”

The sixth edition of the adidas Grand Prix on Saturday, June 12, will still be the deepest in history as 26 Olympic and World champions and five IAAF Diamond League ambassadors have been announced for the meet. The event, held at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, will be the fifth stop on the inaugural 14-meet, international Diamond League circuit.

“I know I echo the wishes of all New York area track fans when I say that we wish Usain a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back next year,” meet director Mark Wetmore said. “The new Diamond League format has helped us put together world-class fields in all of the disciplines, so track and field fans will still experience the best the sport has ever seen in New York City.”
