The prestigious 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards were held this past Monday, June 6th, at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. The venue was transformed into a bustling cityscape. Everybody and anybody involved in fashion took part in this spectacular evening. Some of the influential people included Marc Jacobs, Cynthia Rowley, Betsey Johnson, Aerin Lauder, Maggie Rizer, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Liv Tyler and Kathy Griffin just to name a few. The host of the awards ceremony was CNN’s very popular anchorman, Anderson Cooper.
The Red Carpet gave us a variety of styles and brilliant colors in dazzling gowns and short appealing evening dresses. As usual, Lady Gaga made a universal fashion statement in her over-the-top platforms. She was decked out in black with studs on the bodice and she finished the look with a greenish-blue wig in a short bob.
The underwriter for the event was Swarovski. This is the 10th year of underwriting for the company. Glitterbox Floor Lamps and Lanterns by Georg Baldele for Swarovski Crystal Palace created a sparkling backdrop. This looked especially beautiful in the outdoor Swarovski terrace. On stage, the company managed to do a custom-made crystal encrusted podium.
KCD was the executive producer. The official red carpet sponsor was QVC and the official automotive sponsor was Lexus. The official airline was Continental Airlines, W Hotels Worldwide was the official hotel. Wine, champagne and spirits were provided by Sherry-Lehmann Wine and Spirits and water was provided by FIJI.
Ensemble Band Sybarite5 entertained the guests. As the evening progressed, video tributes to the nominees and honorees played against the backdrop of Alice Tully Hall.
The selection committee for the awards was made up of CFDA members, leading fashion journalists, stylists and top retail executives.
