A Sparkling Evening At The CFDA Awards

One could only describe it as an electrifying evening, a plethora of designers, models, celebrities and media mixing for the sake of fashion. The evening began with cocktails and ended on a huge congratulatory note. The Red Carpet was ruled by such fashionable favorites as Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Victoria Beckham, Vera Wang, Vanessa Hudgens, Joe Jonas, Tom Ford and the list continues. Once again, Michael Kors proved prestige lies in the outfit and he dominated the Red Carpet with his styles.  Taking a brazen leap into loveliness, Julianna Margulies attended the ceremony as a sparkling example of Kors’ creativity, quite literally put.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was “The Late Late Show” host, James Corden. Always a trendsetter in her own way, Kim Kardashian West presented Kevin Systrom with the Media Award. Kim was a fashion statement, as always, in a feathered black gown from Proenza Schouler.

Togetherness took on new meanings as Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen brought their love of fashion to its peek with their signature brand “The Row”, named as such taking example with Savile Row in London. On this extravagant evening, their popularity of the brand won them Womenswear Designer of the Year.  Another designer who has consistently excelled at his craft is Tom Ford, Menswear Designer of the Year.

DAVID X PRUTTING FOR BFA

Tabitha Simmons won the Accessory Designer of the Year title. As for the trio of Swarovski Awards: Rosie Assoulin snagged the Womenswear category, Hood By Air took home a Trova for Menswear, and Mansur Gavriel’s adored bucket bags nabbed the brand the Accessory Design accolade.  The talent just continued to fill the room.

The Founder’s Award went to J.Crew’s Mickey Drexler, and the International Award went to Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli. “We’re so excited,” said Grazia Chiuri and Piccioli before the show. “It’s like a dream.” While in New York the design duo said they love to go running in CentraCFDA Fashion Awardsl Park, go to Brooklyn, and go to the museums and had recently check out the new Whitney Museum. Where were they staying? The Pierre, bien sûr!

The real star of the evening with an energy that lights up any room that she enters, Betsy Johnson, cartwheeled on to the stage to accept the coveted Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. After all those years of impressing, showing her clothing line on the runway in a fun fashion, going through the ups and downs of success, this is the treasure at the end of the rainbow.

Designer Misha Nonoo was socializing with some of the guests, reminiscing about her days as an emerging designer. Today, 4 years later and gaining ground at an enormous rate with some of the hottest celebrities of our time, Misha can look back with a humbleness and a thank-you from those who continued to support her and her work. Kanye West presented the Style Icon Award to Pharrell Williams and made him extremely ‘happy.’  Williams was flouting the black tie dress code by wearing faded jeans, a blue leather jacket and military cap.

The customary way to end the evening was no exception at this annual award ceremony. After-parties got underway and the action was only just beginning as congratulations were definitely in order.
