Every month of the year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences entertains us in glorious ways.

For the month of November, they invite their fans to step into the realm of horror or savor in the mad mind of Alfred Hitchcock.  On Thursday, November 15, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California, the Academy will present the 20th anniversary screening of director Francis Ford Coppola’s “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”  The evening will be hosted by Variety Tech columnist, David S. Cohen, and is accompanied by an onstage discussion with some of the members of the original film crew from the makeup artists (Greg Cannom, Michele Burke and Matthew W. Mingle) to the sound effects editors (Tom C. McCarthy and David E. Stone).  The story takes us back to the Victorian era in London with Gary Oldham playing the lead character who searches for the reincarnation of his long-lost love and as a vampire, leaves a trail of victims in his path.  This was an Academy Award-winning film.

Later in the month on November 29, 2012 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California at 7:30 p.m., the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences treats audiences to the U.S. premiere of Alfred Hitchcock’s silent feature “The Ring” which has been restored by the British Film Institute National Archive in association with STUDIOCANAL.  This is Hitchcock’s only original screenplay.  It has celebrated success this year being featured at Cannes and then as part of the London 2012 Festival as part of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.  The film is from a larger restoration project titled “Rescue the Hitchcock 9”  which is a major campaign to restore all nine surviving silent films by the legendary director.  The story itself is a love triangle drama in the boxing world, one of Hitchcock’s fascinations.  The ring signifies the boxing ring and the wedding ring that unites up-and-coming contender Jack “One Round” Sander (Carl Brisson) and his girlfriend Mabel (Lilian Hall Davis) and to the threat to their relationship symbolized by an arm bracelet given to Mabel by a rival boxer.
