It’s hard to believe that yet another great fashion week has come to a close.  So many fabulous fashions hit the runway and memorable events took place that left you breathless in Sydney, Australia.

One of the many highlights of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Australian Fashion Laureate Award bestowed upon ‘ready-to-wear’ designer, Collette Dinnigan.  This was part of an initiative of the New South Wales Government and IMG Fashion in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.  This was a shining promise of the success that can be achieved and recognition of the hard work that it takes to get there.

The week began anxiously with ‘Romance Was Born’ and a magical take on the Marvel make-believe world of comic book heroes with whimsical, wildly colorful outfits filled with geometric patterns and powerful prints.

Gilded embellishment and unique shapes made for a very entertaining show.  Models were outfitted in platforms that were the color of the rainbow and each girl had brilliantly orangish-red hair styled to fit the models’ features and that cartoon image.  Makeup was dramatically applied to be even more effective.   Superheroes were plastered across one dress with a sequined bottom in a very ingenious way.  The finale was flavorful with a gold applique dress.

The team behind this frenzy is Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales.  The whole S/S 2012 Collection just made you want to go “Kerpow” or “Kaboom”!  It was a theatrical work of art.

The final day was a culmination of an amazingly remarkable week.  The day kicked off with the debut of Suboo’s first ready-to-wear and swimwear collection.  It was a very high fashion line which captures the feminine side of a woman.  Flowers and soft fabrics made this collection stand out with pride.

As you gazed out at the expansive skyline of the massive and thrilling city, strapless one-piece swimsuits in pastel patterns drew your attention and made you wish for more.  Halter top cover-ups freely flowed without a care in the world.  The interesting rope jewelry complimented outfits and tribal prints accentuated a couple of the cover-up pieces.

That show led into the next which was Bless’ed Are The Meek.  Tulle and lace were molded into unique dresses of individualism screaming originality.  Ivory certainly portrayed a shade far from innocence.

The collection was somewhat simple but yet totally striking.  Lavender flower prints adorned short dresses and pant outfits.  Flirty short skirts fluttered back and forth down the illuminated runway.  There was an interesting rendition of a tuxedo jacket over very short shorts.  The collection was labeled ‘The Siren’ and was the first individual collection show for the designers behind the label, Maria Maung and Tarek Kourhani.

Getting ever so closer to the stimulating ending of the event, nANA JUDY seemed to go that extra mile complete with the Australian Pop band, Amy Meredith, who set the mood  for the hip collection shown at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney.  In a cloud of smoke, the show opened and the models were smokin’ hot as well.

Big hair, colorful skinny jeans and bustiers and bra tops carried the show to completion.  Fringe tops from dreamy decades ago had their comeback and the male models strolled down the runway in tight and relaxed jeans, denim vests and casual tee-shirts.  Here and there you could find the chiffon top, jean jacket and jean short interspersed in the collection.  Rock concert excites the fashion runway in this upbeat show by this Australian based fashion label, nANA JUDY.

The evening and the week came to a fashionable and fine ending with Fernando Frisoni’s Masquerade Ball.  The Ball was a masterful way to bring high profile press, celebrities, designers and industry professionals together at the plush Sir Stamford Hotel.

After a full week of non-stop activities, you were still able to feel the immense energy that overtook the full floor of the hotel used for the celebration.  Cocktails were plentiful and many a fashion statement was made as you secretly glanced around the room in every direction.

In between the opening and the closing days, there were so many special collections shown such as Gary Bigeni, Camilla, Dylan Cooper, Talulah, Flowers For A Vagabond, Bec & Bridge, Kooey Australia and so many more.  There was equally as many mens’ collections as there were womens’ collections.

In one of the top fashion capitals of the world, talent was overflowing in abundance with exquisite and exclusive collections that symbolized the finest in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.  We close the chapter for now but know that we will see all these lovely fashions on the pages of fashion magazines in the coming months ahead.
