This past Monday, March 7th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, a very special opening reception was held to honor and view pre-kindergarten to 6th grade students’ works of art. The location was at the Avenue of the Americas Art Gallery. New York City’s own Mayor Michael Bloomberg was on hand to lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony in order to begin the festivities.

Pure Fame Media’s own Rocky Heslop was at the event and was able to spend a few moments with the Mayor and get a picture with him.Children have such a wondrous imagination and because of this program ‘Studio in a School’, the kids are able to use the canvas to express their creativity. Through this avenue, the public is able to view and admire the over 200 works of their art. There was everything from paintings to sculptures to collages to prints on display. The exhibitions were painted in vivid colors, landscapes that captured the energy of New York city streets and collaborative sculptures.

In an effort to support children leading healthier lives through good nutrition, the Studio has created a new initiative called Art and Healthy Living. Studio has joined with Greenmarket/Grow NYC and Teacher’s College, Columbia University to share nutrition instruction with children and enable them to try new foods and stay on a healthier path even after they have finished the art program.

The children on hand were thrilled to be able to spend an evening with the Mayor and it will certainly be one that they remember for many months to come.
