CARIBBEAN TV PROGRAM RECEIVES USA CONGRESSIONAL PROCLAMATION FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH
NY: Caribbean Lifestyle TV (CLM TV) production team, comprising executives Anthony Turner, Clement Hume, Andrea Bullens, host Irwine Clare, editor Basil Wellington and cameraman Jason Mason created history on the last day of Black History month 2011, when they became the first New York based Caribbean TV producers, to be presented with a Congressional Proclamation from the office of USA Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (NY-6), Senior Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Financial Services for outstanding contribution to the Diaspora for the past four years.
The proclamation, which was presented at the station’s fourth anniversary gala at Negril Restaurant in Manhattan, attracted hundreds of Caribbean nationals in the tri-state area, including Jamaica’s Consul General in New York, Geneive Brown-Metzger who was on hand to celebrate the milestone achievement. Also present were Stephen Hill, CEO of CIN TV, who flew in from Jamaica, Jazz great Monty Alexander and international reggae artiste Denroy Morgan.
Hume, who accepted the award on behalf of the team, said the proclamation was a major accomplishment.
“We feel a sense of pride and accomplishment to be recognized by US congressman Meeks for the outstanding television program we deliver each week. This is a historic moment for CLM TV and for all my Caribbean brothers and sisters who aspire to make a positive impact” Hume said, moments after accepting the award.
“CLM TV is an integral part of the fabric of the Caribbean community. We put our heritage and culture on display each week. We also consistently engage the community with issues affecting them and we are committed to showcasing successful Caribbean nationals who serve as role models for our kids” he added.
Since CLM TV debuted in NY in 2007, the program has racked up impressive ratings, showcasing Caribbean celebrities, movers and shakers and successful business entrepreneurs living in the USA and Jamaica. Recent guests include former Prime Minister of Jamaica the Hon. Edward Seaga; PM of Antigua, Hon. Baldwin Spencer; Mt. Vernon Mayor Clinton Young; Carl McCall, former NY State Comptroller; Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jimmy Cliff; Brenda Blackmon, co-anchor of WWOR-TV; Suzanne de Passé, Co-Chairman of de Passé Jones Entertainment Group; Olympians Asafa Powell, Sherone Simpson, Veronica Campbell Brown, Grace Jackson, Ben Johnson, singers Gramps Morgan, Beres Hammond, Richie Stephens and many others.
In 2010, the station hosted the inaugural CLM TV Sports Symposium that was held at Schomburg in Harlem. The successful event attracted a wide cross section of sports fans and scores of ethnic and international press including Reuters News agency, Reuters TV, CBC TV from Canada, TrackAlerts.com, What’z Up TV and Zync TV who heard important discussions about the Legacy of the Beijing Olympics, Brand Jamaica and sports tourism.
Prior to accepting the proclamation, the CLM team honored Jamaica women’s basketball captain/coach Simone Edwards, who led her team to a title at the 2006 Caribbean Basketball Championship and second place at the 2010 Centro basket tournament in Puerto Rico. Also honored were publisher/broadcaster Herman Hall (CLM TV 2010 Man of the Year), saxophonist Cedric “IM” Brooks (CLM TV Lifetime Achievement Award) and Team Jamaica Bickle (CLM TV Achievement Award).
