CELEBRITIES SHINE FOR A CAUSE
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanThere is nothing like ‘Passion for a Cause’ to bring some of the brightest celebrities together if only for one evening.
It is important to stand up for what you believe in and have that drive and determination to make dreams come true for those less fortunate or to ‘Save the Environment’ and ‘Save Our Oceans’.
Recently, “Toast for a Cause” was Moet & Chandon’s philanthropic initiative that was supported during the Golden Globes Awards evening. Moet & Chandon is a name that signifies class and sophistication and it is widely known as the official champagne of this glorious event. This munificent initiative united celebrities in fun and yet they marveled in a competition that was sure to make a difference, and in doing so, raised money for the charity of their choice. One lucky winner was chosen amongst the sea of celebrities and that winner happened to be the humble yet humorous Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
She not only was a winner because it just happened to be her 52nd birthday but she also won the honor of $11,000 to be donated to her ‘Charity of Choice’ on behalf of Moet & Chandon. Moet even decided to spice it up this year with a new Twitter competition, offering an additional $10,000 donation for the celebrity who received the most retweets of @MoetUSA’s picture from the Red Carpet of the celebrity toasting with a Moet mini. Julia won hands down.
Julia stands behind her ‘Charity of Choice’ which is “Heal The Bay”. This non-profit organization not only cares about the welfare of people but also generously supports safety and cleaning of the beaches of Southern California. This was such a fantastic way for such a caring organization to begin the new year off right.
As a result of this monumental Golden Globes evening affair and charity competition, Moet & Chandon was able to donate to 20 charitable organizations which added up to nearly $200,000 in donations for over 13 charities including this year’s honorees. Those statistics are almost staggering when so many of these non-profit organizations are desperately in need.
Megan Hilty saluted her glass and stood strong for Joyful Heart Foundation. This foundation takes on the tough issues of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse and works towards battling to put an end to this type of violence and abuse. We need more supporters like Megan.
Jack Black did his part for the Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. This is a degenerative disease that tugs on cell energy in the human body and causes damage to cells of the brain, heart, liver, skeletal muscles, kidney and the endocrine and respiratory systems. Unfortunately, children are the most prominent victims so we salute Mr. Jack Black for all that he raised.
Hugh Jackman knew that he had to do his part for World Vision. He was on top of the world after winning a Golden Globe award but knew that if he could raise enough funds, he could assist in combating poverty for children and families across the globe. Every dollar counts. He has a noble and heartwarming mission.
Eddie Redmayne knew that his job was to make sure his Moet mini stood for Teenage Cancer Trust. Any time that awareness can be built around cancer and efforts can be made to fund research and education, it deserves a toast.
Steve Buscemi took on a cause that was close to his heart, Friends of the Firefighters. Moet & Chandon helped him to draw attention to this great organization dedicated to addressing the physical, mental health and wellness needs of New York City Firefighters and their families. These selfless workers save lives every day and the job comes with its share of emotional pitfalls that require support both emotionally and financially.
Kate Hudson was smiling from ear to ear as she raised her Moet mini to the World Wildlife Fund. Help to save animals and species from being victims of illegal wildlife trade. These helpless animals can warm hearts and being able to rely on this foundation throughout the year gives us a piece of mind that we are one step closer to safety for our wildlife.
Debra Messing competed for her cause, PSI. This is a leading global health organization with programs that target malaria, child survival, HIV and reproductive health. Through a toast of Moet & Chandon, Debra worked to do her part on a worldwide scale as well.
Sean “P.Diddy” Combs stood behind the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. As some of us get ready to embark on the Susan G. Komen Walk for Breast Cancer in parts of the United States, we salute this celebrity that worked to make a difference.
Although this was a star-studded event that drew celebrities passionate about ‘Toast For a Cause’, we can all do our part every day of the year, no matter how small, for a ‘charity of our choice’. It will bring loads of satisfaction, awareness and recognition to the causes that deserve to be heard. No contribution is too small and even the smallest effort will go a long way these days.
A big thanks goes to Moet & Chandon for making a difference on this particular evening.
