The collections are always bright and bountiful with color, charisma and a bit of intrigue. This season, DESIGUAL (www.desigual.com/en_US) certainly did not disappoint at New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017.
The Desigual Fashion Presentation took place on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at The Arc, Skylight @ Moynihan Station in New York City. The designer brand took inspiration from the fierce independence pursued in every way by a ‘Global Traveler’. The result was successful in portraying a balance somewhere between an urban and virtual jungle, mixed into one overlying theme. Reality was transfixed by imagination. That sense of bold and individualistic style came across in interesting creations being paraded down the runway by young muses in minimal makeup.
Denim masqueraded in many forms, from the boho-believin’ traveler, wandering throughout the world, to denim dreamin’ jackets and cropped jeans adorned with colorful flower power patches and various images such as butterflies. Maxi skirts and dresses in tie-dye blue brought comfort in a fashionable manner to the runway. Flirtatious lace gave us a reminder that independence and femininity can travel hand in hand on a beautiful spring day. Flattering silhouettes in distinct fabric combinations using animal, botanical and ethnic prints were enhanced with crystals and hand-sewn embroidery. The beauty direction was inspired by social media, adopting fun “filters” as a means of artistic expression in a virtual world.
At one point, we felt as if we were transported back to the fearless 70’s with that seemingly Woodstock sort of look. Each combination brought back memories of a time when fashion took on its own personality and the atmosphere was uniquely unconventional.
The front row was plentiful with notable guests that have become loyal fans of the brand. Seen admiring each of the fashions were a number of beauty queens; Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach, Miss USA, Deshauna Barber, Miss Teen USA, Kamie Crawford. Hit shows ‘The Bachelorette’ and ‘Bachelor In Paradise’ brought out attendees Andi Dorfman along with Caila Quinn and Sharleen Joynt. The list continued with internationally celebrated actresses Paz Vega and Tea Falco, models Kelly Bensimon and Jessica Minh Anh and Yovanna Ventura, fashion photographer Nigel Barker, Olympian fencer Miles Chamley-Watson, blogger Helena Bordon. Other actresses and actors included Fatima Ptacek, Tashiana Washington, Clare Foley, Eric West and singers SYMON and Kristine Elezaj also attended to see the fun-loving fashions.
A Desigual fashion show is always a favorite to attend. No matter what the season may be, each piece shown lets your imagination run wild and free. The clothing and accessories are meant for women of all ages, however, slip into one of the popular pieces and you will immediately become a free-spirited soul in clothing meant to be magical.
