There is one designer that sets the bar in elegance. That designer is none other than Douglas Hannant. His collections are always so beautiful and refined.

Hannant’s humble beginnings took him from being an assistant window dresser at Barney’s New York to the runways of Bryant Park and now to current day and his stand-alone boutique at the Shops at the Plaza, quite an accomplishment. He has quickly expanded globally with his unmatched designs.

He describes his customer base as modern, fresh and new all wrapped into luxurious. His clientele know exactly what they want and strive to look good in every facet of their life. The two glamorous women that inspire him are Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn.

Recently at Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Week in New York City, the Plaza Hotel was the setting for his captivating preview of the new Fall/Winter 2011 collection.

It began with sophisticated attire for day. The consistent colors for the season were black and white with a mix of chocolate brown and rust. Keeping warm is easy in a black and white tweed coat with a fox collar. Leather and wool take the season by storm. A crimson wool crepe dress is fabulous dressed up with a pair of leather boots. Suits were unique and stylish especially the black and white herringbone jacket with Mongolian lamb trim over a black leather pant.

Most designers added pizazz to their collections with sequins, embroidery, beads and lace and that message came across clearly with Hannant’s fashions as well.

As we glided towards evening wear, the tall dark-haired model looked stunning in a teal matte jersey cowl front dress with beaded cap sleeves.

Black and gray were paired perfectly together as was evident with the black georgette embroidered and beaded blouse over a gray flannel pant with side tie or the charcoal jersey top with pewter sequin pattern over gray flannel skirt with swarkara trim.

The evening gowns were simply out of this world and the models wore them with so much class. The styles were reminiscent of the glamorous big screen Bogey and Bacall movie fashions. One of the favorites was the black and gold beaded tulle camisole over a black crepe skirt with double slits followed by the gold beaded flapper dress.

As the show approached the finale, the gowns were the ultimate in beauty.

Fuchsia and deep blue stood out in the crowd as head-turners. Velvet, satin and silk were the popular fabrics and one-shoulder and strapless took over the runway. A perfect ending to a glorious show was the black and white strapless gown with geometric applied organza petals.

Hannant’s fashions definitely make the woman and any woman will agree that his clothes make you feel like a princess. They are elegant and chic all wrapped into feminine and appealing in every sense of the word.
