FASHION HOPE MAKES A DIFFERENCE
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanThere is no organization more prominent in the fashion world than Fashion Hope-Styling For A Cause. Born out of an idea to use fashion as a vehicle to make a worldwide difference, this organization came about in May of 2011 and has been going full steam ahead ever since.
Since fashion is a common bond shared round the globe, it makes it much easier to raise awareness and funds partnering Fashion Hope with non-governmental organizations that serve on the frontlines rescuing and rehabilitating human trafficking survivors. Through the power of images, a heart wrenching story tells of unmasking human atrocities.
Fashion press, celebrities, designers, local boutiques and industry experts have jumped on the bandwagon becoming collaborators and sponsors to uncover underlying implications of human trafficking such as transparency in supply chain.
Through outlets such as fashion events, the organization known as Fashion Hope continues to stay in the spotlight. Well-known events such as Nolcha@Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, STYLE Fashion Week LA, The Oscars, The GRAMMYS,The Emmys and Sundance Film Festival are just some that have partnered with this organization that is devoted to making a difference in many lives.
Most recently, the organization has made its mark on the fashion world with their presence during STYLE Fashion Week LA at the Go Red For Women Celebrity Red Dress Fashion Show benefitting the American Heart Association.
Prior to that event, monumental announcements were made as “The Fashion One Foundation and Fashion One Network” joined forces for the long term. In addition, Fashion One raises awareness of poverty, charity aid, education and environmental issues.
Advocacy is by far the largest area of exposure supporting the survivors, the organizations that come to the rescue of trafficking survivors and Fashion Hope has a large influence on policy and legislative initiatives to best support the victims and rally for fair trade standards.
International Spokesmodel Ambassador for Fashion Hope is the enchanting Pakistani born and Canadian native, Zara Durrani. This lovely lady has a strong presence in the fashion world as she organizes and takes part in campaigns and events and writes editorials for Vancouver Sun, Eastern Eye, Asian City Newspaper, Hello!Pakistan, Hello!India and many more. Zara can spread the word rapidly through her entertainment talk show known as ‘Life & Style with Zara’. Dedicating a large portion of her life to humanitarian work, this seemed like the perfect choice to represent Fashion Hope.
Coming very soon to the thrill of its loyal followers, Fashion Hope will be launching an online boutique – www.shopfashionhope.com spring 2013-a site that will allow ethical designers a voice and a way to make an impact on the lives of the enslaved and the free.
