There could be no better way to end New York Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Week than with the elegance and splendor of ‘Gentry’, the unveiling of the Douglas Hannant Fall 2012 Collection shown at The Oenslager Gallery at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

Douglas Hannant is a designer of distinction, a master of his trade.  He puts his heart and soul into every collection knowing exactly what his clients want.  New York City is his home and his creativity is inspired as he sees his clients wearing his clothes throughout the city.  His customer is a connoisseur of everything, treasuring the best of it all and settling for nothing less than the finest.  They are collectors of art, jewelry and fashion.  They are special and you can feel their excitement as they enter his shows.

On this day, we were put into the mood amongst autumn trees and a leaf strewn pathway resembling the runway, a forest washed in beauty beyond belief.

The collection was inspired by the English countryside, a sort of Wallis Simpson theme significantly in time for the release of the movie, ‘W.E.’.

The models were cultured and refined in textured plaids.  Leather was an added touch to a charcoal draped jersey dress and a black and white tweed jacket with leather sleeves over black leather jodhpur.

What is so unique about Hannant’s fashions is the use of fabrics such as crepe, velvet, lace, georgette, mohair, organza and cashmere.

Suits are simply his specialty and one of the nicest of the collection was the black and white oversized houndstooth peplum jacket over the pencil skirt.  Jersey dressing is a big fall favorite and solid colors and color blocking will be one of the hot trends of the season.

Evening Wear is so aristocratic as we watched the models glide down the fall-colored pathway in a silver moire flared strapless cocktail dress, a fuchsia shantung gown with black lace back, a black panne’ velvet mermaid gown with beaded decollete’ and the finale of the show and certainly a classic prize-winning gown of black/white and silver beaded taffeta.

As the audience thrilled to the procession of outfits for a final time, Douglas Hannant proudly came forward to take a bow for a show so finely done once again.

Now Douglas Hannant is busy with the next Bridal Collection and then his Resort Wear Collection.  His loyal customers will be ecstatic to learn that he has recently opened a seasonal store in Palm Beach, Florida at 150 Worth Avenue.

We wish much continued success to Douglas Hannant and will be following the launch of his next collection.
