GO PINK IN THE CITY

The stately Mizner Ballroom in the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, Florida, was transformed on Friday, October 28th, into a very ‘Pink Afternoon In the City’, ‘New York City’, as Kristin Davis, well-known for her role on the HBO Hit Series, Sex and the City for six successful seasons, was the special keynote speaker.

This was the 8th annual ‘Go Pink’ Luncheon to support the fight against breast cancer.

Davis drew in many generous supporters and made this the biggest and best year yet with over 1400 people in attendance. Many were decked out in pink, the color of the month and the day. The room, the food, the setting and the atmosphere were all built around the concept of the ‘Go Pink Challenge’ to provide the latest technologies in the fight against breast cancer.

Right outside the ballroom was the courageous ‘Daisy Wall’. This was the location of the raffle with over $7,000 worth of out of this world prize packages from food to beauty to jewelry to shopping outings donated by over one hundred benevolent sponsors in support of this great cause. The top prize was a two-year lease of a Mercedes-Benz from Mercedes-Benz of Delray. The winner was extremely surprised and absolutely ecstatic. It was a dream come true.

This enjoyable afternoon would not have been possible without the efforts and dedication of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health and Wellness Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital is one of the best in its class. A short film on the state of the art facility certainly revealed that with emotional testimonials from those treated at the center and recovering from the dreadful disease.

Breast cancer survivors and those affected in some way by breast cancer were recognized and applauded. A very optimistic Louise Morrell, MD, Medical Director of the Cancer Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, spoke about advances in breast care. Live by the 4Ps: Pre-emptive, Proactive, Personalized and Partners. When all is said and done, we must all partner together and we will certainly be the triumphant winners.

Dressed in pink with a down-to-earth personality, Kristin Davis shared her account of how breast cancer has affected her life in so many ways. As she is quoted as saying, “Breast Cancer touches all of us at some point, whether through a family member, friend, or ourselves. It is important to support one another and never take health for granted.”

Davis ended the event on a heartwarming note to carry with each and every attendee for the remainder of the afternoon.

Kristin was wearing an exquisite pair of gold and diamond earrings worth $20,000 from Neiman Marcus. They were auctioned off at the end of the program in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Each and every woman needs to be their own health care advocate. The fight against breast cancer is an ongoing initiative that will always continue until we overwhelmingly win the battle. We are definitely on the way with over $4 million raised in the last four years from this magnanimous event.

It was a very bright day ‘In the City’.
