There is no television show this year that has been more influential to style and fashion than ‘Gossip Girl’ featured on the CW Network.
Filmed mainly in New York City, the Fashion Capital of the World, this show is the trendsetter for what is hot and what is not.
Each episode unveils a host of designer outfits on a cast of youthful characters that wear the clothes exceptionally well. The show revolves around the lives of a set of privileged young adults who take on their own set of problems and confront life’s ups and downs as friends and enemies at times.
Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen, Jessica Szohr, Ed Westwick, Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle bring on the fashions each week and keep us guessing on what looks will take hold quickly.
There are body hugging career dresses paired with patterned and textured tights. Silky blouses are worn with short wool skirts and finished off with ankle boots or designer heels. Sweater dresses are complimented by knee high black boots.
Some of the most gorgeous fashions are made for evening. An organza floor-length halter gown is the perfect answer to femininity and innocence and worn by Leighton Meester. One of the most ravishing gowns was worn by Blake Lively in a recent episode filmed at none other than Lincoln Center, home to Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Week. The gown was an intricately beaded, low-cut, grayish pearl blue short dress with a train gathered at the waist and extending to the ground. Lace covered the long sleeves, legs and full back giving it a sense of true elegance.
Slip dresses take on a whole new meaning with a suggestive connotation.
Black tight leggings are accessorized with gold heels and worn with a black long-sleeved tailored suit top with a cut-out V at the chest and joined back up at the neckline. It could only be described as elegant and sexy.
There have been a number of episodes with sparkling minis and diamonds to match.
As the seasons went from spring to summer to fall to winter, the collections went through magnificent transitions as well.
Large necklaces and even larger purses added an air of sophistication to each outfit.
The trend in hairstyles seemed to be flowing and long although sometimes coiffed in an updo or messy braid.
The men go from oversized sweaters and jeans to tailored suits with matching ties and handkerchiefs. Untucked oxford shirts over baggy pants or simple jeans was the answer to casual. Each male character took on their own distinctive style.
Many of the current popular designers seem to be the inspiration behind the looks. Tory Burch and Rachel Zoe as well as Tim Gunn have even made guest appearances as themselves.
This show has undoubtedly set the stage for the fashion world and the streets of New York City are the perfect setting for taking on widespread appeal to all age groups.
Stay tuned for all new episodes beginning on Monday, January 24th at 9:00 PM. We can’t wait to see what fashions are unveiled in the coming shows.
