ANOTHER GREAT YEAR FOR ‘THE PROPER AFFAIR’
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanThe stage was set this past Wednesday evening, April 18th, as the 4th Annual Boston Proper Charity Gala took place in South Florida in Boca Raton. The exclusive Boca Raton Resort and Club provided a warm and inviting setting for attendees to mix and mingle and support a wonderful charity that gives back to the local community in so many important ways.
Leading online retailer, Boston Proper, worked in collaboration with The Achievement Centers for Children and Families. The non-profit organization’s major goal is to educate, train and support at-risk children, youth and families preparing them for all phases of life from the classroom to economic self-sufficiency to improved quality of family function with healthier lifestyles. Their accomplishments are evident with the percentages of youth and families that transition into the community with a sense of pride and confidence.
The evening began with a heartwarming film of all the dedicated efforts of the agency. Throughout the evening, a silent auction was underway offering unique and desirable spa and beauty packages, baskets full of goodies and more. Raffle tickets were sold for a chance at some incredible prizes as well such as a vacation package and world-class jewelry. All proceeds went to benefit the Achievement Centers.
Two very talented dance groups direct from the Centers took to the stage keeping their audience entertained while as part of the dance, the little ones moved to the beat with big smiles and hips shaking to the sounds of the music. They certainly had their dance moves down and enjoyed being the center of attention and the opening act for an evening of enticing fashion.
The fashion show was the highlight of the night. The volunteer models looked spectacular in a wide array of stylish outfits. All hair and makeup was done by Eleven Spa in Delray Beach. The salon volunteered their efforts to set beauty in motion.
A tight animal print dress with a hint of Indian inspiration looked gorgeous on a dark-haired beauty. Lots of fringe adorned a top paired with a version of the palazzo pant. A model working her charm and finesse transported us back to the roaring 20’s in her Boston Proper exclusive flapper dress. The Bohemian influence peeked through in a halter maxi dress designed in geometrics while a turquoise top was paired with a patterned maxi skirt.
Sparkling shine and denim fringe shaped a tailored jacket which looked so becoming paired with jeans giving them a dressy appeal. We saw an alluring bathing suit with coverup made for the Southern sunshine.
Since South Florida is known for its warm and sultry evenings, many of the clothing pieces were perfect for enjoying the season decked out in suave sophistication.
The beauty of Boston Proper is its classic and versatile merchandise which appeals to women of all generations who enjoy looking and feeling beautiful for a day at the beach, a week at the office or an evening at the club.
The best part of the evening was the opportunity for the audience to bid on the outfits straight from the runway. You saw it, you loved it, you bid on it, it was yours!
Endless hours of hard work and volunteer efforts went into making this event the huge success it turned out to be and there could be no better testimonial than the significant dollars raised to support the cause at hand. You could feel the enthusiasm in the room as the lights came up and the evening came to a close for yet another year.
