By far, one of the best shows culminating the end of NY Fashion Week this season was Gwen Stefani’s Spring/Summer 2011 LAMB Collection. Stefani has been described as a ‘trendsetter’ in the fashion world. This collection was characterized as Rasta Girl meets Sound of Music, sweet at heart girl.
The new collection is synonymous with fun, flirty, stylish and provocative. The clothes exhibited bold, bright hues and images inspired by the Jamaican and Japanese cultures. As models confidently glided down the runway, the reggae beat blasted in the background to set the tone and the flavor of this exciting extravaganza. The runway was transformed with geometrical prints, breezy, short ruffled dresses and a touch of the African tribal influence. In contrast to the short dress/skirt was the long and flowing ankle length dress that was exhibited beautifully. Animal prints graced some of the models while monochromatic dresses and suits in black proved to be classy and sophisticated this season. The low, scooped neckline was sexy and suggesting. What could be labeled as parachute pants premiered with long slits down the leg in plaids and vibrant colors. Hats worn to the side were the favorite accessory to finish off many of the outfits along with large, beaded jewelry and big handbags. Very original hammock belts completed many of the ensembles.
Stefani has branched out and undoubtedly emerged as one of the most talked about and respected designers of the year. LAMB debuted at NY Fashion Week in 2005 and Stefani’s flair for rhythm and her eye for beauty has inflamed this collection and it has soared to new heights.
Mark my words, Gwen Stefani will be labeled as one of the pivotal designers of the decade and the sky is the limit with her future LAMB collections. Each season gets bigger and better than ever and I look forward to seeing her show for Fall/Winter 2011.
