Could that be the Loch Ness Monster in the middle of Alster Lake in Hamburg, Germany?

It appears to be 12 feet high and 98 feet long. The sculpture is a lovely, floating giant lifelike woman bathing in the lake. Her head with long lashes, eye makeup and rosy red lips is protruding out of the water along with her kneecaps. Tourists are renting row boats just to get a closer look at this work of art.

And who is the artist behind ‘The Bather’? Oliver Voss, head of the advertising academy Miami Ad School, worked with his team to come up with an innovative way to encourage and make tourists and residents alike rediscover and experience the city by water. The larger than life beauty will be on display in the lake for ten days. She is made of steel and styrofoam.

It has caused a bit of controversy from some residents as well as the district mayor, Markus Schreiber, who feel that the sculpture is somewhat of an eyesore.

Even though this ‘Lady of the Lake’ is drawing mixed emotions, she has caught the interest of the world and put Hamburg in the spotlight for ten days.
