A long-standing holiday tradition is the Easter Egg Roll at the White House.  This year the crowds were very excited to partake in the celebration on Monday, April 9th, 2012.

President Obama warmly welcomed over 100 children and adults alike to the White House.  Before the day was over, close to 30,000 visitors would take part in the memorable festivities.  The President handed it over to Michelle Obama who was dressed befittingly in the colors of spring – a red shirt, yellow cardigan, royal blue pants and all accessorized with light-blue flats.

The day was loaded with all kinds of activities ranging from a yoga garden to story-time to face painting to musical guests to healthy cooking with celebrity chefs.  Sports stars such as the entertaining Harlem Globetrotters and tennis great, Chris Evert, were guests as well.  Later in the day, stories were read by actress Julianne Moore and actor, Forest Whitaker.

Of course the highlight of the day was certainly the Easter Egg Roll itself in which everyone participated.

The day was built around the theme of “Let’s Go, Let’s Play, Let’s Move!”  Michelle Obama is a huge advocate and supporter of health and wellness amongst youngsters which tied in with the theme.  The First Lady is part of the “Let’s Move” initiative to solve the problem of childhood obesity and to promote and encourage children to lead healthy and active lives.

This was definitely a family affair as daughters, Sasha and Malia, read “A Sick Day for Amos McGee” to the eager kids.  First dog, Bo, took a seat at their feet with an occasional bark or two.  Everyone’s favorite book, “Where the Wild Things Are” was read aloud by President Obama himself as the children chimed in with roars in all the right places in the story.

Basketball hoop shooting was in the agenda as well and expert Redskins LB, Lorenzo Alexander, was helping to run drills.

There was something going on for everyone that was present with plenty of smiles, easter eggs, giggles and good cheer.   It was a day to remember, a day to enjoy.  Pure Fame Media is always on hand to cover special events.  We feel especially honored to have the opportunity to cover White House events such as this one.
