Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

It’s official!! The largest fashion week in Eastern Europe presenting 95 Fall/Winter 2011-2012 designer collections is now known as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia. The inaugural event recently took place from March 31st through April 5th in Moscow in Congress-Hall of World Trade Center. The presentations were those of emerging Russian designers in addition to well-known Italian, British, German and Spanish designers.

Russian Fashion Week has been taking place since the year 2000 but has transitioned over to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this year. Fifty new and upcoming designers were introduced as a forum to discover new and creative talent. As is customary, the week opened with Russian Fashion House Slava Zaitsev who celebrated 50 years of his fashion career this year. He is nicknamed the Russian Dior and has held the title of #1 in Russian fashion for quite some time now.

The catwalk was filled with a kaleidoscope of fantastic designs throughout the 6 enticing days.

Winter colors of brown, bronze and gold were befitting for a more subtle look. A deep brown sweater was worn with a flowing brown and gold silk skirt. A button down shirt with colors resembling fall leaves was paired with wide-legged brown pants.

Lace added a sense of beauty to a strapless form-fitting ankle-length dress tightly fastened at the waist with a wide black leather belt and accessorized with a striking silver necklace.

The Russian influence reared its head with fur hats, commonly known to Americans as shapkas with patent high boots and sparkling gold short dresses with a splash of silver to accentuate the lovely look of winter.

A sleeveless silver dress had a Cleopatra like insignia with a touch of black down the front of the dress and was perfect on the dark-haired beauty who glided down the runway.

Sequined sweaters with a rainbow of hues in orange, turquoise, pink, yellow and black on a beige canvas will brighten the Fall/Winter season paired with a light brown wool skirt.

Fur is synonymous with Fall/Winter seasons and there were some interesting combinations. A light brown colored fur tunic jacket was worn over a light blue pant outfit. Brown suede gloves and brown suede knee-high boots had a sexy appeal worn with a light blue suit jacket and matching shorts. A dark fur stole was thrown around the model’s neck like a piece of jewelry.

A black pencil skirt was dressed up with a jacket with unique feathered sleeves and appearing chic and smart looking for the office or a night on the town.

A few of the fashions captured a myraid of colors in the outfit, the hat, tights and boots! The visual effect of the entire outfit screamed originality with every step taken down the catwalk.

A black and red lace tulle skirt was under the spotlight in a provocative way.

Contr Fashion gave us the talk of the event with an eye-opening outfit characteristic of a unique bride. The model was adorned in a white pineapple shaped silk gown with extravagant bows and a peeled back neckline complete with firework sparklers. It was surely a sight worth watching as the model made her way down the runway.

It was certainly a memorable week covered by worldwide media such as The World Fashion Channel and sponsored by such big names as Maybelline, Loreal, Tupperware and DHL just to name a few.

We look forward to welcoming this additional Fashion Week again in October of this year when the Spring/Summer 2012 Collections will be unveiled.
