MIAMI FASHION WEEK’S SHOWCASE OF DESIGNERS
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanOn the last evening of Miami Fashion Week 2013, not only was the Miami Moda Awards a large part of the excitement of the evening but we got a glimpse into the fashions of a kaleidoscope of talented designers.
These designers are displayed during fashion weeks across the globe but on this special evening, the runway belonged to all of them. After a rousing hour of entertainment and awards, models walked to the beat in a dazzling array of outfits.
Alberta Ferretti radiates Italian elegance with rich fabrics, her characteristic draping and tucking and an innocence on the runway. The pastel colors only accentuated magical embellishment with a shine and ultimate glamour.
Blumarine stands for feminine feelings with an inspirational touch and the goal is achieved by accomplished designer, Anna Molinari. Culture of the past influences her creations of tomorrow. Using white as the major color on the palette, she blends black and brown patterns into a stunning end product. Sweet petals of perfection and sequins in style give her collection loads of pizzazz.
Byblos took wildly 3D patterns and symmetrical prints to a whole new level in swinging strapless sundresses and perky pink day dresses. One of the most striking pieces was a one-shouldered side slit floor-length dress covered in florals beckoning the spring and its warmth.
Another Italian designer line with plenty of magic in the shapes and the silhouettes of the pieces was Ermanno Scervino. The line takes on a youthful elegance and cutaway clothing seems to be a bit suggestive and yet unique in a special sort of way. Originality is key in this collection.
Kriza gave us a gown of graduated length and the right amount of style for the woman with the hour-glass figure. Plunging necklines, plunging backs, embellishment and just a little bit of leg all combined to make these pieces shine with lavish luxury.
Oh so dainty and delightful was this feminine line from Laura Biagiotti. Biagiotti was one of the first Italian designers to present a collection in China in 1988. She has received many awards and it is easy to agree with those that treasure her work. Ruffles and appliques were so pretty and her clothing has a regal sense of royalty for those that love wearing each of the pieces.
Moschino clothing had a playful edge with sunflowers emblazoned on a mini dress with cap sleeves or a skater dress made for comfort with a capital C. The show stopping finale for this design line was the silver-plated mini dress accessorized with silver sandals reminiscent of the disco era gone by as the reflection from the dress ran the length of the runway.
The talk of the evening had to be the Roberto Cavalli fashions. True to his collections, detailed exotic prints made for magnificence on the runway. A woman becomes even more gorgeous in a Cavalli creation.
A designer that dresses many a celebrity with her contemporary collections is Stella McCartney. She is one of the most respected designers in the fashion world today. Although there were only a few pieces shown, it was a well-picked sampling of some of the finest pieces that set Stella apart from the rest.
Lastly, one of the original damsels of fashion, Vivienne Westwood, made us appreciate why her fashions are so well received in London as we gazed at a stunning silky white dress with bold red roses imprinted on the fabric. Floral patterns were prominent adding brightness and emotion to a well-done ending.
It felt as if we were flown off to Milan, New York, London, Paris and back to Miami Beach all in the span of an evening at one of the finest fashion events of the year, Miami Fashion Week 2013.
