As soon as London Fashion Week came to a close, media and fashion professionals rushed off to attend Milan Fashion Week.

Such influential design names as Emporio Armani, MaxMara, Prada, Moschino, Salvatore Ferragamo, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana introduced collections with a stylish and sophisticated edge.

Colors were vibrant giving the runway a sense of vitality and there were some very prominent trends that dominated as they did in New York and London.

Large floral prints and embellished flower patterns and designs were an appropriate way to herald in the springtime.  Designers such as Bottega Veneta and Marni ran with this trend in jacket dressing.  Moschino took it a few inches higher to go mini and vibrant.

Embroidered lace and refined ruffles remind us that women love to look feminine.  Versace has always had a deep respect for what a woman stands for and it radiates in his fashions.  Alberta Ferretti took the trend one step further by using rich organzas and chiffons in a sexy silhouette.  Pastels signified a softer look.

Perhaps it was the sway of such a city as Milan but many of the pieces were larger than life and lavish to almost an exaggeration.  DSquared2 combined motorcycle madness with a full ruffle all the way up to the strapless bodice for a more brazen appeal.  Dolce & Gabbana expounded on the crinoline hoop skirt used back in the 1830’s and recreated it in gold for a completely dramatic effect.

The stars and the moon gave forth inspiration while the metallics glistened in glamour down the runway.  Giorgio Armani gave his cosmopolitan spin on the constellations in dreamy shades going from aqua blue to deep dusk.  Fendi designed a metallic dress that resembled a coat of armor with structured shoulders.  It gave off a confident sense of style.

Each designer decided to use color almost like an artist uses his paintbrush to create a masterpiece.  From Just Cavalli to Gucci to Fendi to Versus, they went from subdued to wild and wonderful.

Clean lines always make for more versatility and this concept seemed to ease its way into many of the collections.  Designers who seemed to run with the idea were Sportmax, Fendi who favored color blocking as well, Giorgio Armani and Salvatore Ferragamo.

Two trends that seem to continue to live on every season are the layering/draping effect and the animal/snakeskin print with a more fluid appearance.  They are here to stay and have held their timeless beauty over the last few seasons.

We were so tastefully reminded of the richness, the class and the elegance that Milan holds as designer after designer treated us to their rendition of the freshness of the Spring/Summer 2013 Season.
