Honoring Jamaican independence, leaders
Eight Jamaican-American community leaders – in the fields of of business, law enforcement and medicine – were honored Wednesday Aug 25,2010 in Queens at a free Jamaica 48th anniversary independence event, presented by the New York City Council and hosted by City Councilman Leroy Comrie.
The event held at York College‘s Performing Arts Center, 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Blvd. in Jamaica, Queens, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Honorees include Garfield Clarke, owner of Genesis Restaurant; Orville Hall, owner of Hollis Famous Burgers; Officer Dorrin Ferguson of 113th Precinct in Queens; Faith Grant of New York Life Insurance; O’Lester Johnson, owner of Falcon Driving School; Dr. Dexter McKenzie, pediatric internist, and Sheree Palmer, owner of Cambria Center for the Gifted Child, and civic leader Esme Tomlinson-DeWindt.
