Oscar Fashions

Oscar Fashions By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

Oscar Night is one of the biggest nights for celebrities to honor the successes of their peers in the movie industry. But more notable than that are the fashion statements made on the red carpet. This year the evening was marked by sequins and glitter and simplicity and refinement.

Beginning with the gorgeous and glamorous gowns, Mandy Moore has matured beyond her years and looking lovely in a glittering ivory colored Monique Lhuillier gown. Amy Adams could have been the belle of the ball in her dark purple cap-sleeved caviar-bead embroidered dress by L’Wren Scott. Her long reddish-blond locks were a perfect compliment to the gown.

Hillary Swank attracted many a glance in her Gucci silver strapless bodice with feather ombre hem.
Looking as sweet as a princess, Hailee Steinfeld came out in a full petticoat 50’s style dress designed by Marchesa. Hailee’s talents abound as she drew a sketch of her dress and inspired her designers to bring it to life. To finish the look, she wore a sparkling headband and carried a small clutch purse.

Dark and alluring was Mila Kunis in a lavender tiered lace and ruched gown by Elie Saab couture. Scarlett Johansson was transformed with a new short hairstyle and a Dolce and Gabbana wine lace gown with an open back. It seemed to hug her curves in all the right places.

Jennifer Hudson looked simply magnificent in a Versace tangerine halter top gown with gathering at the back. Her accessories were kept to a minimum with a diamond bracelet on either wrist.
Nicole Kidman went intricate vs. simplistic in an embellished white Dior strapless gown with a kimono draped skirt.

The sparkle in Gwyneth Paltrow’s eyes was evident by gazing at her in a silver low cut Calvin Klein dress and Louis Vuitton jewelry.
Halle Berry once again took the spotlight in her Marchesa nude and crystal encrusted corset gown with organza and silk tulle ruffles.

Celebrating Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Week, Annette Bening wore a charcoal crystal column dress from Naeem Khan. Of course Anne Hathaway went through over 7 wardrobe changes over the course of the evening but began in a lovely strapless vintage red Valentino gown with none other than the designer himself on her arm on the red carpet.

Now on to the more simplistic designs and the ever so lovely actresses that wore the creations.
Life is certainly agreeing with Reese Witherspoon as she looked fabulous in her strapless black and white Armani Prive gown.

Cate Blanchett was a beauty to behold in her pale lavender Givenchy couture gown that suggested armor and fluidity.

Michelle Williams went for the classic look with her white Chanel sparkling gown.
Jennifer Lawrence was stunning in a Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein red maillot gown with Chopard jewels.
Sandra Bullock chose a red strapless Vera Wang gown that was the perfect choice. It complimented her figure very well.
The Oscar winner of the evening was Natalie Portman who wore a winning gown as well, a purple draped silk chiffon Rodarte gown adorned with Swarovski crystals.

The night concluded with many after parties and fashionable exits.
