PINK PONY AGAINST CANCER

PINK PONY AGAINST CANCER by Hope Wilkos, South Florida Blogger

October is drawing to a close but not without its share of successes in raising funds to support Breast Cancer research and education in addition to making more people aware of the fight against this deadly disease.
Ralph Lauren is one of the all-time great designers of this century. His classic yet sophisticated style appeals to a wide array of customers. He captivates his audiences time and time again with his original yet distinctive designs.
You may be wondering how these two topics tie in together. What many may not be aware of is that this year marks the tenth anniversary of the Ralph Lauren Pink Pony Collection and associated charity auction. Ten percent of the proceeds of all of his Pink Pony products benefit cancer care and prevention not only in the month of October but 365 days a year.
As you browse the collection, you will surely not be disappointed. Shop for slim fit black and white tees with the Pink Pony logo, traditional ribbed tanks, Pink Pony stretch polo pullovers, limited edition white track jackets, black cashmere hoodies and long-sleeved zip-up polo shirts.
If that doesn’t fit your fancy, take a peek at the stretch poplin shirts with the polo insignia pocket, big pony cap, beaded trim Hope tee in black or the racer back stretch jersey dress.
For the woman who has everything, one of the most luxurious gifts is the Italian Pink Pony silk scarf. This elegant scarf is crafted in Italy in silk twill and features an equestrian print with pink ribbons and accents.
A Pink Pony umbrella, square sunglasses, pink alligator wallet, candles, handbags and cashmere throw can be found for the discerning buyer.
Children can also be dazzling dressed in many of the same shirts and attire as their parents.
From Oct 1st through the 21st, the Pink Pony Auction took place in support of the cause with many exciting offerings. People from all over the globe had the ability to bid on over 300 lifetime experiences from travel, art, sports and fashion to rare collectibles. The net proceeds went to support the Ralph Lauren Pink Pony Fund. Some of the unique packages included a weekend at Ralph Lauren Round Hill villa in Jamaica, an escape to Donna Karan’s Turks and Caicos retreat, an opportunity to meet Dwayne Wade or Lebron James, front row seats to a Ralph Lauren Show then take home one of the looks and cap it off with a stay in the Saks Fifth Avenue penthouse and even a chance to have your child seen in one of the Ralph Lauren ads.
Ralph Lauren is not just another name in the fashion world. His efforts in philanthropy reach far and wide across the universe. As his website states, ‘The Pink Pony Fund of the Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation supports programs for early diagnosis, education, treatment and research and is dedicated to bringing patient navigation and quality cancer care to medically underserved communities.’ But it simply doesn’t end there. There are many other initiatives that Polo Ralph Lauren supports.
Campaigns include the Hope Help and Relief Haiti which raises money to send tents and shelter survival boxes to Haiti.
In response to September 11th, American Heroes Fund College Scholarships was founded. This effort raised four million dollars for relief efforts and established a college scholarship fund for the children of victims of the September 11th attacks. Not only that but Lauren has bestowed major gifts to the Twin Towers Fund, American Red Cross and NY Police and Fire Widows and Children’s Benefit Fund.
Just to touch on a few other ongoing efforts, employees of Ralph Lauren volunteer with non-profit community –based organizations as well as take part in Habitat for Humanity. A Polo Fashion School after school course has been established for inner city teenagers. To read more details, visit the website at www.ralphlauren.com.
Ralph Lauren is a man of many talents and is a humanitarian at heart. Just this past week he was handed the key to New York City by Mayor Bloomberg as a reward for all that he does and all that he stands for.
Hats go off to a truly first class fashion designer and altruist human being.
