These days many fashion consumers are very environmentally conscious and now there is an online site that is doing its part with the collaboration of many well-known designers to get out the word on this popular initiative.
Net-A-Porter.Com, the world’s premier online luxury retailer, has launched ‘Runway to Green’ to raise funding and awareness for Alliance for Climate Protection, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the United Nations Environment Programme’s Billion Tree Campaign.
Brands such as Manolo Blahnik, Tommy Hilfiger, Prada and Tory Burch are taking part in this effort by investigating how they can integrate the sustainable manufacturing practices set forth in the Clean By Design initiative from the Natural Resources Defense Council. Some of their fashion items will be dedicated to benefit this great cause.
So you ask how you can do your part? Net-A-Porter.Com launched the collection on March 29th. At least 10% of net proceeds from the sale of the ‘Runway to Green’ designs will be donated to ‘Runway to Green’ and this in turn will fund the affiliated NGOs.
The message is clear. Let’s band together to raise awareness and funds to support a worthwhile cause and spread the word to friends and family. The fashion industry is doing its part towards the environment and this is only the beginning. The global message is this, “Each individual must play an active role in protecting our environment.”
‘Runway to Green’ was launched on the evening of March 29th during the Christie’s Bid to Save the Earth event in Rockefeller Center in New York City and celebrities such as Salma Hayek, David and Susan Rockefeller and Graydon and Anna Carter attended the festivities. To top off the evening, there was a live fashion show co-styled by some of the Vogue Magazine staff. ‘Runway to Green’, through its partnership with Christie’s Green Auction, will also be supporting Central Park Conservatory, Conservation International and Oceana.
