Shakespeare in the Park

SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

This time of year it is always a pleasure to enjoy the sunshine and outdoors in New York City.

On June 20th, the annual Shakespeare in the Park was held at the Delacorte open-air Theater. This theater was established in 1962 and located just off 80th Street on the southwest corner of the Great Lawn, right in the heart of Central Park.

Under the direction of Daniel Sullivan, one of William Shakespeare’s plays called ‘All’s Well that Ends Well’ was performed in front of many distinguished guests and celebrities. Table seating averaged from $15,000 to $100,000 and general tickets were priced from $1,500 to $5,000.

Spotted looking casual and totally enjoying themselves were Naomi Watts and Liev Schrieber.

One of the all-time media personalities, Paula Zahn, looked fashionably stylish in a grey knee-length halter dress.

Comedians and actors, Steve Martin and Martin Short, were seen laughing and joking as part of the audience.

We even got a glimpse of Chelsea Clinton and her hubby, Marc Mezvinsky, who were strolling hand in hand looking happy and in love as they made their way to the performance.

Some of the other well-known celebrities present were Alan Alda, Josh Charles, Lauren Ambrose and Swoosie Kurtz.

The true meaning of the day was to come together to celebrate the genius of a brilliant English writer in a beautiful setting.
