SHOPPING IN 2013 AND BEYOND IN NEW YORK CITY

By:  Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

As we look back on 2013 and all it had to offer the fashion world, we look at some of the best vintage and unique boutiques that New York City and Brooklyn have to offer a woman with a passion for shopping and enjoy rounding out their wardrobes on a regular basis.

DailyCandy  put forth some of the finest places to shop and here are a few of their choices:

MiradorBoutique

The Mirador Boutique which is located in Greenwich Village, gives us plenty to get fashionably excited about these days.   This laundromat turned restaurant turned Prohibition-Era tearoom is now the location of one of the most trend-setting boutiques in the city.  To look around, you will feel like you stepped into a warm and inviting living room filled with some of the most gorgeous clothing meant for every occasion that you can think of.  Find the most tailored to the most tantalizing pieces that will enhance your existing wardrobe.  You will find Freedom of Animals vegan leather satchels and mesh Kara handbags to complete your entire outfit before you step out. There are even more surprises that await you.  Check them out at mirador-nyc.com. It is located between 8th Street and Washington Square North.

No matter what the season may hold or what year we may be in, vintage still plays a very strong role in our lives.  Lucy Ann Wheeless brings us vintage of a different sort.  She knows what sells after having worked with renowned designer, Marc Jacobs.  Here at her own shop called Collections, she sells summer dresses that will set the day on fire, retro print jumpers to simply have fun in and pass the day away and locally made jewelry with a sparkle. You will even find original artwork at this boutique.  You are sure to pick up some of the most individualized finds at this boutique of antiquity and class.  Go to collectionsbk.tumblr.com and pay a visit to Lucy Ann at 16A Wilson Avenue between George and Noll Streets, Bushwick in Brooklyn.

TwistedLilly

Now that you are all dressed up, it is time to put on a spritz of perfume to attract your significant other.  Find your perfect scent at Twisted Lilly in Brooklyn.  It doesn’t matter if you are looking for local New York City products or a scent with an international appeal, Twisted Lilly carries it all.  For the eco-friendly consumer, you will find a section of the store filled with 100% natural products such as a la Providence Perfume Co. and Undergreen.  Unsure of what scent fits your personality best?  Never fear because you have an opportunity to do the sniff tests.  Take your time and make the right choice.  Check this boutique out at www.twistedlilly.com or head on over to 360 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn.

I also wanted to share a vintage shop which I picked out that is sure to thrill you for at least an hour or two, perhaps even longer.  It is called ‘A Little Wicked’ and it is located on the lower East Side.  Texas transplants, Robyn and Bianca Moreno, love the world of fashion and it shines through in this enchanting boutique.  The shop draws all kinds of shoppers in. If you are a lover of fashions all things H&M and Zara, this is the store that you have been waiting for.  Some of the most feminine and flirty pieces are sure to attract you.  The theme of the boutique says it all, “Every Cool Girl’s Dream Closet”.  Prices are extremely reasonable for names such as Chloe, Diane von Furstenberg and Betsey Johnson, but never fear because if you just are not into designer labels, there are plenty of great finds that will make you look amazing.  Check out crop tops, lacy dresses of luxury and even sequin-laden pieces and sassy accessories. Though one of the smaller shops on the block, it is definitely one of the most recognized boutiques on the Lower East Side. Visit the girls at 279 East Houston Street and check out their website, www.alittlewicked.com.

Now that the holiday crowds are beginning to disperse, time to check out all of these stylish shops and have some fashion fun as you define your own personal style for 2014.
