SIERRA CLUB AND MAYOR BLOOMBERG BOND TOGETHER By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
New York’s Mayor Bloomberg is a strong proponent of climate change and has been working on this initiative advocating improvement of the environment during his term in office.
The Sierra Club is one of the oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organizations in the United States. Their motto is “explore, enjoy and protect the planet”. They have numerous missions in the works on a daily/monthly/yearly basis all of which work towards the goal of protecting our environment and making this a better world to live in for generations to come.
The Sierra Club is now getting a huge boost in its effort to shut down coal-fired power plants. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has teamed up with the organization by contributing $50 million to fight to end the use of coal and replace with clean energy.

Currently the plants produce almost half of the nation’s electricity. This also translates into pollution and illness. So far the Sierra Club has defeated 153 new coal plants.
Bloomberg’s philanthropic contribution will be wisely used to double the Club’s staff working on the campaign and better organize its network of grassroots activists in 45 states.
