St. Patty’s Day is always a day of fun and festivities capped off with green beer for all. The nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration began in Manhattan with a parade along Fifth Avenue. Over 2 million spectators lined the street to watch the procession led by best-selling author Mary Higgins Clark who served as the Grand Marshal of the Parade.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg turned out to enjoy the festivities and take part in the parade. People from all over the world were anxious and excited as the procession kicked off. Tourists as far away as London and Mexico joined New York natives to cheer on the bands and the marchers.
This year marks the 250th year of this historic parade.
One of the most significant parts of the day was when the Parade Committee members laid a wreath at ‘The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier’ in recognition of 2 1/2 centuries of Irish Americans service in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

You could see green shirts in the crowd of onlookers for miles and their true spirit was shining through and could be felt for the duration of the day.

It is a good probability that the majority of the Irish pubs will be celebrating the holiday into the wee hours of the morning, green beer and all.
