THE GIFT OF GLORY HONORED AT 2013 GOVERNORS AWARDS

A black-tie event took place on November 16, 2013 that gave us a deep appreciation for our stars of the present who have also influenced the past and will continue to have a strong impact on the future.

Governor Award 2013 Winners

Last Saturday evening was marked for the fifth consecutive year as the date to once again award the distinguished 2013 Governors Awards by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.  It all took place at the Hollywood & Highland Center in the Ray Dolby Ballroom.  This exclusive affair caters to the highly accomplished and takes time to honor those that have given so much of themselves to the motion picture arts & sciences industry.

Angelina Jolie

This year the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award was given to Angelina Jolie who was humbled and grateful for the honor bestowed upon her.  This is quite an accomplishment as Jolie becomes the youngest recipient of the award at the age of 38.  She joins the ranks of Oprah Winfrey (2012 winner), Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor.  Not only is Jolie an outstanding director and actress, but she shines in the world of activism and plays a pivotal role with the ‘Prevent Sexual Violence’ initiative and also serves as special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.  With the love and support of her partner, Brad Pitt, and all of her children, her work becomes a mission of love.

Angela Lansbury

Another recipient was Angela Lansbury who even after receiving 5 Tony Awards, was simply ecstatic to be honored with the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement.  At 88 years of age, she is admirably energetic and extremely proud of her long-time, successful acting career.  She is one of those Hollywood icons that continues to impress and amaze with each endeavor that she undertakes.

Steve Martin

Another accomplished actor and comic with the skill to always bring a smile to our faces and the uncanny ability to make us laugh in the most troubled of times is Steve Martin.  Steve was almost in disbelief at learning that he was to receive the honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement.  He has been a Hollywood fixture for a number of years and we can definitely label him as a very seasoned actor and comedian.

Not only were those on the front lines awarded and recognized, but those that work tirelessly behind the scenes were included as well.  Piero Tosi, a very talented costume designer, who has always had a fascination for the cinema, also received a Lifetime Achievement Award.  We have seen his designs in films such as “La Cage aux Folles”, “The Leopard”, “Death In Venice” and “Ludwig.”

Mathew McConaughey

The venue lit up with the likes of Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford, Matthew McConaughey, Annette Bening and Kathryn Bigelow who are all stars in their own rights.

Angelina Jolie

The Red Carpet complimented and flattered beauties such as Amy Adams, Racquel Welch and Jennifer Garner.

The winners were given standing ovations and never before was the smell of success so sweet as in that room on that rewarding evening.  This private black-tie gala kicked off what has been called “OSCAR SEASON” which is swiftly approaching within another month. Congratulations go out to all of our winners.
