The Wonderful World of Cirque

The Wonderful World of Cirque

Everyone loves a circus! Whether you are a small inquisitive child or a fun-loving adult, there is no better way to brighten the spirits than with a circus full of beautiful costumes.

The ultimate circus is Cirque Du Soleil.

This dramatic mix of circus acts and street entertainment is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was founded by two former street performers, Guy Laliberte and Daniel Gauthier, in 1984. Their performing troupe grew and grew and gained followers and fans alike all over the world. From the 1990’s to the 2000’s, Cirque expanded very rapidly in cities across the globe. Each show had a central theme and a unique storyline and that concept has continued to present day.

This holiday season marks the final season of one of the most heartwarming Cirque Du Soleil shows known as Wintuk. Performances from Wednesday-Sunday take place at Madison Square Garden until January 2nd, 2011. There will be additional performances on December 21st, 27th and 28th. This spellbinding show highlights one young child’s quest to find snow. Costumes are glistening, patriotic, body hugging and inspired by the holidays. The young character lives in an imaginary city resembling New York City. He interacts with jocular street characters. The show leads up to a glorious ending. Snowflakes drop from the heavens and coat the audience in a winter white wonderland. Children yell out in excitement at the beautiful snowfall.

This Christmas Wintuk has been carried one step further. FAO Schwarz Fifth Avenue is capturing lifelike Wintuk artists in action throughout the store. Sparkling snowflakes are suspended in mid air. The store also offers Cirque merchandise such as apparel, ornaments, CD’s and so much more. What could be a more perfect tribute to a long running family favorite Cirque show known as Wintuk.

From the frosty Northeast we travel down to the tropic Southeast. In Bicentennial Park in Miami, the tall white tent goes up and a talented family of performers has audiences in awe for both their acrobatics and their exquisite costumes.

This Cirque show is known as Kooza.

Ruby and gold trim costumes directly out of a past medieval century adorn the stage. Contortionists in bodysuits that could only be described as a painted skin fly across the stage. A juggler’s outfit glimmers in silver diamonds and draws almost as much attention as his fantastic act.

It is a zany kingdom and a loner goes in search of his place in the world. He is greeted by a strange band of entertainers in his travels and comes across comical characters and wildly dressed clowns with slapstick humor. The Hoops Manipulation Artist has the most exquisite costume of all. A nude colored bodysuit covers all parts of her body with a glittering deep purple design etched in black fishnet pattern.

In this grand presentation, you can’t be sure if the attraction is for the dancing, acrobatics, music or costumes.

There is one thing for sure. Whether you reside in New York City or Miami, treat the family to a special kind of circus this holiday season. It will have you in that holiday frame of mind.
