TOM AND KATIE: A DREAM SHATTERED

They had fame, they had fortune, they had happiness for just over 7 years. But today, it was confirmed that Katie Holmes filed for divorce, according to Tom Cruise’s lawyer, Bert Fields.
Tom was absolutely smitten with Katie when he first met her and it was a magical connection for her as well. He declared his love for his sweetheart and shouted it out to the world from Oprah’s couch which has become one of the most talked about moments in history. Katie had that schoolgirl crush on her beau from the time she was a little girl.
So they became that match made in heaven with a romantic proposal at the Eiffel Tower in Paris and a dream wedding in Italy to unite them as husband and wife, a stunning bride and her debonair prince.
Little Suri was born and the couple have always doted upon her. Suri has commanded attention from the time she was born with her adorable style and beautiful yet innocent smile.
Both Tom and Katie have remained in the spotlight for their acting prowess. Tom gave a stellar performance in “Born On the Fourth of July”, “Top Gun” and “Jerry Maguire” and Katie was chosen to play the honorable role of Jacqueline Kennedy in the TV miniseries “The Kennedys”. Perhaps her best known role was on Dawson’s Creek for many years. Tom is currently gracing the big screen in the movie, “Rock of Ages” and it is bringing him new acclaim.
Each time the couple were photographed throughout the years, they appeared to be so much in love, holding each other close, gazing into each other’s eyes and having a brightness about them that felt good. So many are shaking their heads and wondering what led to this shocking split?
Recently, in the last few months, the couple has not been seen together in public or at any official events. Katie’s motherhood role has been taking precedence over her acting career and perhaps she is getting restless. Tom continues to produce and star in films which find him traveling quite a bit. Perhaps communication became an issue. Tom is also devoted to Scientology and while Katie has accepted it over the years, that could have been some type of contributing factor to the split.
It’s difficult to speculate the reasons but easy to hold some remorse for the breakup of another famous Hollywood celebrity couple caught in the public limelight. The two are worth an estimated $275 million so this could be a messy divorce or an amicable divorce. We will know within a very short time.
In the meantime, both have asked for privacy stating that “this is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family” and the people are urged to respect “their privacy to work this out”.
Its been rumored that Tom is very sad and caught by surprise. He is concentrating on his children for now. The couple will most likely share joint custody of little Suri.
Our hearts go out to both of them with the hope that new doors will open for both with a brighter future.
