Vivienne Tam – Fall/Winter 2011

Vivienne Tam – Fall/Winter 2011 By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

One of the most cutting edge designers that stands out in my mind at last week’s IMG/Mercedes-Benz Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Week is Vivienne Tam. Her collections continue to lead the way with their culturally diversified fashion appeal.

This latest collection was all about duality, an equal balance of new and old, ancient and modern. Tam was inspired by the 600-year-old Kun Opera and her clothes were a work of art and a fantasy come to life on the runway.

The outfits all had such intricate detail in the form of appliques, embroidery and embellishment. Dresses dazzled with sequins, crystals, beading and lots of fringe.

Outerwear was magnificent as a model glided down the runway in a blue tweed pagoda coat with flower pin applique and another marched down in a black tweed emperor overcoat. There was nothing more unique then the Black Opera quilted Empress Hooded Raincoat with removable fur trim.

Women will feel sophisticated and richly adorned in a jade fringed green dress with dragon applique and jet crystals. Or perhaps you might desire to look more elegant in an Opera crystal cream dress with rigid net overlay and fringe. Opulence abounds in a black dragon embroidery tank dress with jet crystals and beaded dragon cuffs.

As the show was coming to a close, the highlight of the evening included a black royal k’ao armor Opera sequin and bead gown with fringe and a red Dao Ma Dan Warrior Woman sequined print wedding dress with fringe.

Most of the outfits were paired with black suede or leather boots some of which were embroidered. Nothing was more stunning than the purple suede boot which was a perfect combination with a shimmering turtleneck and navy pleat skirt.

This show kept the audience entranced by the beauty and grace of the clothes. It was definitely a show well worth attending and another fantastic collection from the brilliant Vivienne Tam.
