One of the most reputable trend sponsors of Mercedes-Benz Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Week in New York City was WGSN, “The Fashion Bible of the 21st Century”, giving you everything related to style and fashion at the click of the mouse.  This sponsorship created a strategic and everlasting relationship between IMG and WGSN to carry fashion far into the future.

Although this may seem like a very easy undertaking, there is much in the way of preparation and work that goes into making an event this large such a huge success.  First, terminals were needed at the Lincoln Center TrendZone so that event goers could wander over and see what was trending on the runway at any given moment.  Proper staffing and the right team of individuals was necessary to make sure that fashion experts were available to man the area, offer tips and answer any questions as the fashion shows took place.  It was crucial to make sure that show images were being uploaded as they happened.

I was fortunate enough to be able to interview Sally Lohan, Content Director USA West Coast and Bravo’s “Launch My Line” trend expert.  She was kind enough to take time to explain what WGSN is all about and to give us some insight into the fashion looks of the seasons.

WGSN is the largest trend company in the world and with pride can say that they have been covering the globe on the internet for 13 years with headquarters in London and 22 International Offices in Sao Paulo, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and right here in the United States in New York City and Los Angeles.  The company is professionally represented by a staff of 150 expert editorial and design staff.  They are geared towards providing clients with personalized service giving them the most all-encompassing connection to style.

One of the newest initiatives that was part of the TrendZone at Lincoln Center was the recently launched Vogue archive featuring every issue of American Vogue from 1892 until today.

Here are the questions and answers from my enlightening interview with Sally Lohan:

Where do you see the trends going for Fall/Winter 2012?    Some of the latest trends take us back to the 60’s with a definite feel from that era.  It is a combination of the peplum shape, fabric blocking, a new take on color, lots of textures, American heritage with blanket stripes, lace insets, the PVC coat, wool and feathers.  Red has a big influence as one of the major colors of the season and yet winter white plays just as important a role.  There are a variety of looks: in some instances a more masculine look, schoolgirl look, french romantic look and even the tough look conveyed with leather pieces.

What events does WGSN have coming up within the next six months?     In addition to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, there is the MAGIC Apparel Show in Las Vegas, CES Technology Show, L.A. Textile Show, various trade shows in the industry and even the GRAMMY and pre-Academy Award parties.

What advice do you have for someone trying to get into the fashion industry?     Be open to experiences, try to have an eagerness to learn different aspects of the business in order to gain more knowledge that will make you more marketable in the future.  Interning is the best way to build your skill sets.  You must be ready to take the initiative and multi-task is a talent that needs to be perfected in this busy corporate world that we exist in today.

Who do you see as some of the most popular well-known designers of 2012?    Three of the designers that stand out are Rebecca Taylor, HONOR (Giovanna Randall) and BCBGMAXAZRIA.

What are the hottest trends for our current Spring/Summer 2012 season?    The looks are fresh for this season with lots of pastel colors like pink jackets and just a very feminine and beautiful look.

This is an exciting time in the fashion industry and WGSN can put the trends right at your fingertips.  They are the leading fashion forecaster for top brands such as D&G, Paul Smith, Tommy Hilfiger, GAP, Nike, Puma and others.    See what they are all about as you visit their site:  www.wgsn.com.
