The not-for-profit trade association rules the world of style, made up of some of the most highly respected fashion experts in the field of womenswear, menswear, jewelry and accessories. Distinguished members include Badgley & Mischka, Vera Wang, Tadashi Shoji, Prabal Gurung, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Carolina Herrera, Tom Ford, Robert Geller, Diane von Furstenberg and many more, over 500 in total. These famous names have long held the reins on fashion for decades.
Come this time of the year, we all eagerly await the announcement of the nominees for the yearâs CFDA Fashion Awards. The star-studded celebrity ceremony is held annually in June, recognizing those individuals who have stood out for their contribution made to American fashion in womenswear, menswear and accessories. Going one step further, this is the event where emerging talent shines under the spotlight in the areas of journalism, creative vision, personal style, positive change and lifetime achievement.Â
The entire nomination process is a rigorous one, ultimately the CFDA Board of Directors ratify the nominees and honorees. The winners are chosen by the CFDA Fashion Awards Guild.Â
In March, the 2019 nominees and honorees were announced, setting the stage for the upcoming ceremony which will be held on Monday, June 3rdat the Brooklyn Museum in New York. In a statement recently, Ford shared, âAs the Chairman, I look forward to continuing the incredible work Diane has done over the last 13 years.â âDiane is a true force and her contribution to the CFDA and to American fashion is immeasurable. We all owe her a great deal.â The CFDA board is made up of roughly 19 people, including designers Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang, among others. Fordâs agenda as the new leader of the CFDA includes focusing on New York Fashion Week and its new location for the future and he promises to make it a top priority to strengthen the role of the CFDA as it supports American designers with new creative and business opportunities.Â
Fashion will be in full swing on June 3rd as we get a glimpse of the Red Carpet arrivals of the top names in fashion and then finally congratulate, at the end of the evening, a new set of all-stars chosen for their exceptional ideas and outstanding performance. Each one of the honorees will hold the role of mentor for new talent entering the industry, one that has long been known for setting the trends in fashion and style across the globe.Â
