The month of April marks the start of the Tribeca Film Festival and all the much anticipated talent and genre that awaits audiences. What is so important to realize is that even though it is held in New York, this festival is considered an acclaimed worldwide event.
If not for the monumental efforts of Robert De Niro along with a few others, Tribeca Film Festival would not be possible. It was his idea as a response to stimulate and enhance the power of film and culture on the general public. This was due to the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and loss of vitality in the TriBeCa neighborhood in Lower Manhattan.
On Monday, April 16th, New York Academy of Arts 2012 Tribeca Ball will be held to honor Robert De Niro at the Academy located at 111 Franklin Street in Tribeca from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. This magnificent event is sponsored by Van Cleef and Arpels. Get ready for 5 floors of open artist studios filled with works of art from over 100 emerging artists, champagne and live entertainment.
Film enthusiasts should be familiar with some of the dedicated Benefit Committee members: Angela Bassett, Julianna Margulies, Mary Kate Olsen, Parker Posey, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber.
The Ball itself is inspired by one of Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry collections, Bals de Legende. On each of the five floors, you will find a modern twist on one of the 5 most famous balls of the last century. All kinds of culturally diverse attendees are drawn to this party from uptown and downtown celebrities and personalities to art stars to tastemakers. Enticing surprises are in store with champagne bars by Nicholas Feuillatte, wines by Sud de France and plenty of cocktails. Feel free to dance the night away….
A stunning dinner menu created by Daniel Boulud rounds out the evening in the Academy’s Wilkinson Hall, a room specially styled by Van Cleef and Arpels.
Unveiled at the event will be the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival Artist Awards Exhibition. This exhibition will be on view at New York Academy of Art from April 5th through the 25th. Participating artists are Walton Ford, Cindy Sherman, Hugo Tillman just to name a few. These artworks will be awarded to filmmakers selected by the Tribeca Film Festival as winners in their respective categories.
In addition to all this unbelievable entertainment and art, a charitable cause is humbly supported. Proceeds will be contributed towards need-based scholarships for the Academy’s exceptionally talented emerging artists and its public programs. The New York Academy of Art dates back to 1982. One of the most creative artists of all time, Andy Warhol, founded the Academy and was an early trustee. The New York Academy of Art is a 501 (c) not-for-profit educational and cultural institution, offering an MFA degree program along with continuing education courses. Our young generation of today with an eye for creativity and a passion for art can foster the combination here at the Academy and build their individualized skills.
There could be no better sponsor than Van Cleef and Arpels with their timeless creations and ingenious ideas. The brand has held arts education at its highest level. In addition, they support the New York Academy of Arts through a summer fellowship program and are currently collaborating on a Masters program curriculum on miniature painting and gouache drawing.
This is the most paradisiacal event to lead right into the Tribeca Film Festival.
