A NIGHT OF MUSICAL FASHION

Last Saturday evening, March 24, 2012, Miami Beach International Fashion Week came to a spectacular end with the electrifying Miami Moda and Music Awards. Much of the Latin and South American flavor was prevalent over the course of the night.

Celebrity radio and television personalities, Orlando Leon and Ileana Garcia, played the hosts while Supermodel Dasha Protsenko and Spain’s hottest vocal group, D’NASH provided the musical entertainment. Dasha rocked the audience with her new hit single, “Prfct Girl” and D’NASH is best known these days for their cover of Ben E. King’s hit, Stand By Me.

There were two more fashion shows to close out the week and remain imprinted in our memories until next year. Showcasing their collections were Ema Savahl Couture and Nicolas Felizola. These Hollywood gowns took our breath away and made a lasting impression. Dramatic designs, bold and brilliant colors, intricate details with embellishment and stunning gowns were the ultimate culmination to a highly successful week. Ema Savahl is a Miami-based designer known for her “mold to the body” couture gowns.

Nicolas Felizola takes elegance to the next level and idolizes the woman with his exquisite pieces. He has dressed some of Hollywood and Latin America’s biggest stars. His creations recently earned him the “Zanetti Murano” Prize in Italy.

The true focus of the evening’s festivities, though, was to honor and announce the winners of the 2012 Miami Model & Music Awards are:

Living Legend Award – Dionne Warwick
Victoria Puig de Lange International Style Award – Nicolas Felizola, Venezuela/Miami
International Rising Star Award – WALLA, Kingdom of Bahrain
Excellence in Eveningwear Award – Ema Savahl Couture by Ema Koja, Albania/Miami
Prêt-A-Porter Style Award – Petit Pois by Viviana G, Venezuela/Miami
Designers Choice Award – Peter Cave by Pedro Cueva, Ecuador
Celebrity Style Award – Rosario Vargas, Bolivia
Excellence in Accessories Award – G. Destin Collection by Garry Destin, Miami
Top Model of the Year – Alexandra Aguilera, Next Model Management

Beth Sobol, founder of the fashion event, gave some closing comments that summed up the week extremely well, “It truly was an amazing year. We had 55 exciting designers from 25 countries, great sponsors, sold out shows and many wonderful celebrity guests.”

It is no wonder that Miami Beach International Fashion Week is the fifth largest and one of the most important fashion events on the world’s fashion calendars.
