A MAZE OF DIAMONDS
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
Pictures, paintings, photos are all priceless interpretations of self-expression. There is no better way to ring in the holiday season this year than paying a visit to Jamison Ernest’s ‘Bouncing Cars’ exhibition going on now through November 30, 2013, at the Ambassador Gallery in the Meatpacking District in New York City. Get lost in the view, build your own meaning towards the works of art and walk away changed forever.
To entice you to visit the exhibition, Ernest has partnered with Phantom Luxury Group to give the viewers a chance to find one diamond per day in the maze as part of the exhibition. This began on Saturday, November 23, 2013, and will continue for the next 7 days until the last day (except on Thanksgiving Day).
It is energetic, kinetic and collaborative having viewers mesmerized by its unique approach. This is truly interactive art as meditations on the human life cycle, the individual and the universe, intimating throughout the spiritual underpinnings of our very existence.
We are eager to learn what inspired Mr. Jamison Ernest to design this startling creation. Inspired in part by a deadly car crash that Mr. Ernest witnessed 15 years ago, ‘Bouncing Cars’ is conceived in seven chapters that represent the stages of human development from infancy, through adolescence and adulthood, to the second childhood of old age. The car – the driving force, the soul – is depicted in a slow-motion trajectory catapulting into mid-air, or jauntily defying gravity, or listing dangerously to one side. This celebration of life not only acknowledges the reality of death, but also humanity’s gift for transformation and evolution: visitors are invited to exit the exhibition through the maze called Purgatory, and reenter the space as “a reincarnation of yourself” armed “with a new understanding of our universe.”
This exhibition is artistically compelling and intellectually stimulating. The maze represents 7 dead ends which speak of consciousness and the achievement of personal potential – It’s no accident you are here. Be honest and be sincere. Choice is yours: faith or fear. However, Mr. Ernest elevates this “live video game” pursuit to a real life scavenger hunt – over 7 days, 7 diamonds each having 177 facets. Groups of 7 art lovers will be allowed in the maze for 7 minutes at a time to try their luck.
As Jamison says, “I wanted to give people hope.” And so he has. Seven lucky individuals will be leaving the exhibition with gemstones worth $77,777. I would say that is worth a visit because your life may be forever changed.
Take the ordinary to the extraordinary at the Ambassador Gallery as you visit ‘Bouncing Cars’, an exhibition by Jamison Ernest. The gallery is located at 450 W 14th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues and going on through November 30, 2013.
