A New Era Of Fashion With Parsons
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
New York City and fashion go hand in hand. That is further enhanced by the exceptional colleges that produce award-winning designers through educational efforts and the promotion of mentoring.
One of the most highly-respected schools in the city of New York and around the nation is Parsons, The New School For Design. Creativity flourishes in a conducive setting for fashion production of unique ideas.
Each year as part of New York Fashion Week, Parsons holds a grand fashion presentation to celebrate its own students fashions developed for the runway and shown for buyers, media and other guests the very first time. Seen at almost every one of the shows that are held is Donna Karan, a past Parsons graduate, who is intently checking out the newest productions and the by-products of emerging talent.
It is always exciting to share fresh talent with the city that harbors the meaning of fashion. Parsons affords that opportunity to all as they hold their Parsons Festival 2014 taking place today, April 27, 2014, for all to admire. It all begins at 10:00 a.m. and continues through 10:00 p.m. with more dates to promise additional events through May 24th should you miss this chance. Parsons Festival 2014 is a long-standing tradition whereby the school presents students’ visual work and depth of their education and equally highlights the collaborative, cross-disciplinary interaction and social engagement that makes Parsons’ programs so unique.
The Parsons Festival 2014 is all part of NYCxDESIGN, a citywide initiative to celebrate New York City’s contribution to fashion and part of how the city so strongly embraces design. The 2014 festival lineup represents the breadth of the Parsons graduate, undergraduate, and pre-college offerings in architecture, art and design history and theory, communication and graphic design, design strategies and management, design and technology, fashion design, fine arts, interior design, integrated and transdisciplinary design, lighting design, photography, product design, and urban design.
See cutting edge work on the forefront of the future of fashion and see just how far the imagination and creativity of the students stretches to achieve their goals and aspirations. Some of the most prominent individuals in the artistic industry today have been Parsons graduates. Some of the A-list names include Marc Jacobs, Danielle Steel, Zac Posen, Tom Ford, Lauren Bush and Anna Sui, just to name a few.
Not too long ago earlier in the month of April, Milk Gallery held a mixed-media exhibit party dedicated to Dean of Fashion Simon Collins’ new book, The School of Fashion: 30 Parsons Designers, which revealed through portraits, sketches and video interviews that fashion at this level is never an accident. It was a thrilled crowd celebrating much in the way of success and the book is one that will go down in fashion history.
Visit the school’s website to get the details of all their schedules of events that will be held this year at www.newschool.edu/parsons. This is truly fashion at its finest.
