When we think of summer, we think of pool parties, longer days of sunshine, beach outings, BBQs and vacations.

For those film buffs that enjoy watching the classics, the Academy promises you a real treat.

It is once again time for the 2013 Oscars Outdoors summer movie series.  The first installment kicks off  on Wednesday, June 5, 2013.  Joss Whedon’s “Much Ado About Nothing” will be presented by KCRW’s “Matt’s Movies.”  Stars from the film (Amy Acker, Alexis Denisoff, Clark Gregg, Nathan Fillion, Fran Kranz and Sean Maher) will join Whedon for a post-screening Q&A that will be moderated by KCRW’s Matt Holzman.

The setting for the film series will be The Academy Hollywood Campus in the open-air theater which is located at 1341 Vine Street in Hollywood, California.  It is accessible via the Metro Red Line train and the Metro Local 210 bus.  Free parking is located behind the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study.  Enter from Homewood Avenue  off Vine Street which is one block north of Fountain Avenue.  The lot opens 90 minutes prior to the event and closes 30 minutes afterwards.

The Academy’s Managing director of programming, education and preservation, Randy Haberkamp, is quoted as saying, ” After a successful launch last summer, we continue to strive to be the gold standard of outdoor movie events.  Special guests and surprises will make each evening memorable and fun for the audience.”

For the east coast of the nation, New York City will be presenting the NYC Rooftop Films Summer Series.  This marks the 17th year of “Underground Movies Outdoors” running every weekend from May 10-August 17, 2013 and special events to take place in September.  See feature-length films, programs of shorts and independent films. You may get to see the debut of a world premiere movie.  The majority of screenings will include a filmmaker Q&A.  Take your pick from a diverse range of documentaries, fiction, drama, comedy animation and more.  In the past, it has proven to be memorable and you will be introduced to some of the most magical films.
