Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin lived up to its chic expectations as designers showcased their Autumn/Winter 2013 Collections from January 15 through January 18, 2013.
One of the standout presentations of the 4-day event was the Laurèl Fall/Winter 2013 Collection presented on January 17, 2013 at the runway marquee at Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany. It is a locally born yet internationally recognized label that caters to a more modernistic woman still grasping on to femininity at its finest. The clothing portrays a sense of independence, strength and self-confidence. The slogan See*Feel*Love is all part of the idealistic image.
The experience of this latest collection was appropriately called ‘A Walk on the Moon’. The designer invited viewers to go on a journey into a modern, futuristic world that reflects the interaction of architecture and fashion as an expression of our contemporary age.
The show had its share of celebrities sitting right in the front row. Spotted were popular Hollywood actor, Joseph Fiennes and his wife, Maria Dolores Diéguez as well as Barbara, Lilly and Noah Becker and Elisa Schmidt (singer with Femme Schmidt).
So what was the inspiration for these magical designs? Creative Director Elisabeth Schwaiger explains, “On my extensive travels, I often encounter cityscapes and buildings that impress and inspire me. These are settings that spark my imagination and deliver ideas for my creative work. This season, the models on our runway are almost like moon-dwellers – floating between heaven and earth. The look is cool, smart, sophisticated and focused on the essence of being.”
The outfits themselves were derived into sophisticated cuts and we clung to voluminous styles and slim silhouettes. We saw lavish hand-crafted embellishment, dyed furs to warm the soul in the chill of the Fall and lots of sequins and embroidery. There wasn’t one particular color that took the runway by storm but rather a mix of colors in grey, silver, white, black, glowing royal blue, pink and sizzling red. Perhaps the greatest accessory to the season were the vibrant red lips.
We use fashion as a means of self-expression and a revelation into our inner personalities. The title ‘A Walk on the Moon’ symbolizes how we view the new urban worlds: assured and confident, yet light and playful. The Laurèl Fall/Winter 2013 Collection was a wonderful wind-down to a week of gifted fashion at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin.
