Although the windy, rainy weather could have been a deterrent on Saturday, May 25, 2013, some of the finest athletes in the world didn’t let that stop them from giving their very best performance at the   It all took place at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island for the 9th year in conjunction with Sports Alliance.  It is hard to believe that it all began in 2005 when this monumental event put the island on the map for sports history to be made.  In its infancy, the event was known as the Reebok Grand Prix but later changed its name.  The Grand Prix has now grown in leaps and bounds attracting sports enthusiasts in record numbers who are passionate about their favorite athlete.

On this particular day, crowds gathered to watch the exciting field and running events as Olympic Gold medalists competed in one of the top meets in the world to win an honor that some can only dream about.  For those that achieve the win, the award takes them to a whole other level.

David Rudisha of Kenya, a 2012 Olympic Gold Medal winner, amazed his fans as he crossed the finish line at the blazing fast speed of 1 minute and 45.14 seconds in the 800 meters race. Although it was a tiny bit slower than his previous win, not many athletes can boast this lighting speed.

Some of the most anticipated events of the day were the women’s pole vault, women’s 400 meters and the men’s shot put.

The United States was proud as Tyson Gay won the Men’s 100 meter race as he represented our nation.

The Women’s 200 meter race was won by two-time Olympic champion, Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica as she finished in 22.53 seconds fighting blustery winds to achieve her goal.

The 400 Hurdles were won by Olympic Silver Medalist, Michael Tinsley, another American athlete that has made his country proud.

The competition is tough and New York is the third stop on the International IAAF Diamond League circuit.  The competition continues throughout the world from Rome to Paris to Monaco to Brussels.

A huge thanks goes out to media relations executive, Sara Hunninghake.  Sara did a tremendous job of working with the media to make sure that coverage went seamlessly without any compromises and that most of all, everyone enjoyed themselves in the name of sportsmanship.
