THE TALENT OF PARSONS ON DISPLAY
By: Â Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
It’s graduation time again and in the fashion world that can only mean one thing.  Top graduates from Parsons The New School For Design received the opportunity to step out in style as they presented their own creative collections in front of a packed crowd and proud parents at New York’s Chelsea Piers on Wednesday, May 22, 2013.
It is always refreshing to get a new perspective on fashion these days. Â That runway could be the very same runway that the next Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs or Diane von Furstenberg could be discovered on. Â One of the alumnus of the university, Patrick Robinson, played host for the event.
The fashions were diversified and imaginative individuality seemed to shine through on this momentous day.
Harim Jung gave us all the different ways that a simple black coat can be made into a dress, skirt and more.
Maisie Schloss blended fabrics, colors and even feathers for a whimsical result.
Madeleine Provost took the innocence of white and made it into a magical design.
The church and all that is spiritually divine seemed to be the inspiration for Francine Frolich.
A cape coat for the gentlemen? Â Juhyun Park seemed to pull it off effortlessly.
Joseph Singh took us into the far flung future with sleek black outfits in various silhouettes.
Isabel Simpson Kirsch conveyed a message in her designs. Â Self-expression is sometimes the key to magical creation.
Joshua Tafoya made the trendy skater skirt come alive with colorful coordination.
There was definitely alot going on in the creations of Yoon Sun Choi.
Jasmine Plantin took a tranquil image and splashed it across her creations in a most intriguing manner.
The Space Age is here with the glistening fashions of Sophia Suh.
Delicate and fancy-free are the feminine fashions of Harin Yang.
Cultures clash in a lovely vision of style by Eileen Pappas.
Catering to the younger generation with their adorable creations were Evelyn Tao, Diana Flavio Woodside, Priscilla Choi and Julia Passafiume.
For all their hard work and relentless efforts, these fine graduates finished the day with a benefit honoring those emerging designers in the class that won the title for “Designer of the Year.” Â The honors went to Harim Jung and Kaye Applewaite for “Womenswear Designer of the Year.”
Yunxiang Sharon Zhou walked away with “Menswear Designer of the Year.”
Diana Woodside was named “Childrenswear Designer of the Year.”
Each of these incredibly talented young designers is well on their way to a successful career in an industry that is always welcoming change and fresh creativity.
Good luck  to the entire ‘Class of 2013’!
