BRING ON THE BLING WITH LIBERACE
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
Liberace was a man who certainly lived life to its fullest. His world was full of glitz, glam and plenty of sparkle. He was the original “King of Bling” in every sense of the word. His famous line was “Too much of a good thing is wonderful.”
His cup continuously overflowed with Moët & Chandon champagne. Now in a tribute to Liberace and an extravagant career that spanned over 40 years, Moët & Chandon raises a toast to HBO’s ‘Behind The Candelabra,’ a new film that was recently shown at the 66th annual Cannes Film Festival. It stars Michael Douglas as the vivacious Liberace, Matt Damon as his younger love-boy, Scott Thorson, and co-stars Dan Aykroyd, Scott Bakula, Rob Lowe, Paul Reiser, Tom Papa and Debbie Reynolds. The movie will premiere on HBO on May 26, 2013.
At the Time Warner Center in New York City located at 20 Columbus Circle, an exhibition of the flamboyant star is brought to the public from May 20 through May 27, 2013. HBO has transported some of Liberace’s prize possessions from the Liberace Foundation to New York City to be displayed. The lavish lifestyle that this artist led is recreated through his famous crystallized Baldwin grand piano, the world’s largest rhinestone and his sparkling rhinestone roadster. There sits a 12-foot high Moët & Chandon champagne tower with over 140 bottles of champagne topped off with a larger-than-life crystallized bottle of Moët & Chandon Imperial.
The Liberace Foundation, playing a large part in this exhibition, assists talented students in Southern Nevada as they pursue careers in the performing and creative arts through scholarship aid and artistic exposure. For over 30 years since 1976, more than 2700 students have been awarded scholarships.
Perhaps it is time that you stepped into Liberace’s world this weekend and witness why he was labeled “The King of Bling.”
