CLAP YOUR HANDS FOR THE 2013 BILLBOARD AWARDS

Sunday evening, May 19, 2013, was the night that the musical world had been waiting for all year. The entertainment industry celebrated the 2013 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Hotel. As usual, fashion was one of the tantalizing topics rocking the music world on Monday. The other topic seemed to be Justin Bieber and a bit of Taylor Swift.
Let’s first begin with the diverse fashions of the evening. From the far out to the sophisticated, we got a taste of it all. Z LaLa looked like she stepped right out of a spaceship decked out in glistening silver with a huge headdress and her own rendition of wings.
Nicki Minaj, even though she was in fiery red from head to toe, was a bit more subdued in her style and yet the look was lovely on her.
Coming on strong was Kelly Rowland in a long voluptuous gown by Rami Al Ali. A smile is worth a thousand words.
What was the hidden message that Ke$ha was trying to convey? We really aren’t quite sure.
Jennifer Lopez is all about sultry style and she absolutely sparkled in a gold Zuhair Murad gown with sheer bottom. She tends to get the crowd talking at every event that she attends.
Murad was popular dressing Taylor Swift in brilliant beaming blue and Emmy Rossum in beckoning black.
Selena Gomez looked spectacular in a white side slit gown by Atelier Versace.
Even in her 50’s, Madonna commands a crowd and stands out as she seems to make her own self-confident statement. On this particular evening, fishnets and feathers was her wardrobe of choice by designer Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy.
Miley Cyrus continues to make news in the tabloids and with bright red lips and what appeared to be a black and white macrame’ pantsuit by Balmain, she was surely a scene stealer on this night.
All the major musical artists like Celine Dion, Carly Rae Jepsen, Chris Brown, Shania Twain, PSY, Avril Lavigne, Akon, Jason Derulo, Pitbull and Christina Aguilera were all there. Even Mike Tyson made an appearance.
Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps and the awards event was full of action to last into the late evening hours. The winners were on a high as they held up their trophies.
Once again, Taylor Swift topped the list of winners as she walked away with eight trophies winning eight of the eleven categories. Gotye and Rihanna followed with four and three respectively.
Show-stopping performances by The Band Perry, Bruno Mars, Prince, Icona Pop, SkyBlu and Wiz Khalifa were memorable and made us truly understand the meaning of music. Host for the evening was ‘The Voice’s’ own Cee Lo Green.
Of course the show was not without its share of drama. Justin Bieber took the top honors of the evening being awarded the first ever ‘Milestone Award’, presented by Chevrolet, celebrating the ingenuity of the year’s hitmakers. Bieber is only 19 years old and has had 5 #1 songs on the Billboard 200 Chart, quite an accomplishment. As he accepted his trophy onstage, boos could be heard from the audience drowning out some of the cries of happiness from the crowd. He handled it well and continued on with his acceptance speech. Perhaps he was not the choice of the masses for this coveted award? We cut to backstage as Justin saw Selena Gomez with Taylor Swift in tow. As Selena and Justin pecked a kiss for old times, Taylor’s expression was caught on camera and she was not thrilled with the reunion of the on/off again couple.
After just about three hours of fashion, musical performances, a bit of humor thrown in for good measure and plenty of acceptance speeches, the evening came to a close. Here is the list of winners:
