The British Fashion Awards celebrated the creativity, the glory and the success of those that contribute so much to the industry on a regular basis. Setting the trends for the world to follow and admire is the ultimate goal.
The awards were established in 1989, a direct result of the British Fashion Council’s Designer of the Year Award. It has been a tradition for over 20 years and just keeps getting bigger and better.
There are a multitude of categories that range from Accessory Designer of the Year to New Establishment Award to Menswear Designer of the Year to even Model of the Year. This year was a phenomenal year for the notorious and highly influential Stella McCartney who took top honors for Designer of the Year and Designer Brand of the Year.
McCartney has been a winner in every sense of the word and her dedication and drive are exemplary. A Special Recognition Award went to Mr. Harold Tillman for his term as Chairman of the British Fashion Council and all the superb work that he does.
A coveted event such as this can only attract the most respected in the industry as part of the panel of judges. Familiar names are Anna Wintour, Suzy Menkes, Dylan Jones and Alexandra Fullerton who are only a few of the famous faces of the panel. The final decision is theirs to make, a very large and difficult task.
Some of the finest names in fashion were inaugurated into the Hall of Fashion. These inductees made their mark for achievements that set milestones for past, present and future decades. You might recognize these outstanding honorees: Alexander McQueen, Hilary Alexander, Hussein Chalayan, Jean Muir, Joan Burstein, John Galliano, Manolo Blahnik CBE, Paul Smith, Stephen Jones, Suzy Menkes, Vivienne Westwood and Zandra Rhodes. Their talents stretch far and wide from design to fashion journalism to retail icons.
The Savoy Hotel & Theatre in London served as the venue chosen to host such an exclusive event. The awards were hosted by Gemme Arterton and Nick Grimshaw and some of the most charismatic people in the fashion world served as presenters and guests.
Members of the British Fashion Council were in attendance as this was their evening to take pride in knowing they had played a pivotal role.
The Red Carpet was aglow with holiday sparkle as the colors of black and red reminded us of the festive holidays approaching.
