CELEBRATING WOMEN AND ART AT ART BASEL MIAMI

CELEBRATING WOMEN AND ART AT ART BASEL MIAMI

Although Art Basel has departed the trendy shores of sunny Miami, the cultural savvy set is still talking about the success of this annual event that unites fashion, art and entertainment together for an action-packed week of excitement. From art lovers and gallery owners to celebrities, Miami is bustling with activity catering to a large crowd.  They arrived for Art Basel 2013.

It was a real thrill when on Tuesday, December 4, 2013, 5d-Society and Nicole Ehrlich curated a private dinner and live art auction in conjunction with the auction house of Paddle8.  Exceptional works from some of the most esteemed female artists of all time were up for auction.  What’s more, it was so significant that one of New York City’s best restaurants came down for this one night to serve their gourmet cuisine.  It really doesn’t get much better than OMAR’s.  It all took place at the svelte Playboy Hotel at 5445 Collins Avenue.   Not only did this kick off Art Basel 2013 , but it benefitted a most worthy cause, ‘Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation’.   Nicole Ehrlich is Lady Gaga’s Creative Producer with a strong loyalty to assisting this cause.

Some of the remarkable artists putting their work up for auction in the name of charity included Deborah Willis, Sophia Wallace, Nina Chanel and Sophie Muller.   There was also some work from the very talented artist, Lady Gaga herself.

The Born This Way Foundation was established by Lady Gaga and her mom, Cynthia Germanotta, in 2011 as a means to empower our youth of today and inspire bravery for a kinder and braver world.  In our society today, it is to embrace all the things that make each of us unique, different, individual.  Why shouldn’t we all contribute to making a difference in the world? Isn’t that what it is all about?

There was no better platform to rally for the cause and spread the word than with an event as large as Art Basel 2013. The celebration continued way into the evening hours with an astounding after party with performances by Ebony Bones and Linda Clifford.  Music was provided by Honey Dijon.  Nobody will be able to forget that very first evening of Art Basel 2013.
