By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanJewelry has to be just above purses and shoes for the accessory that women just cannot live without. Scoping out new and titillating jewelry stores can sometimes prove to be a favorite hobby. Now it is time to add one more store to your favorite list and once you browse, you are sure to purchase a few distinctive pieces designed especially for you. The ‘Delicate Raymond Jewelry Bar’ is innovative, interesting and entrancing as you enter this new boutique located at 73A Orchard Street between Broome and Grand in the lower east side of Manhattan.
This novel concept was opened by celebrity designer, Michelle Zimmerman, whose jewelry designs are loved and seen on celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Mischa Barton, Carrie Underwood, Mya, Zoe Kravitz and Marcia Cross. The Golden Globes, The Oscars and New York Fashion Week all are events where Zimmerman’s jewelry has been in demand and seen adorning the stars on the Red Carpet in awe-inspiring pieces. Inspiration for the line is taken from her surroundings and her travels around the world to thrilling destinations such as Europe, Africa and South America that continue to amaze her sense of creativity.
The jewelry bar has a “Shape-Your-Shine” workshop where clients can work one on one with Michelle to customize earrings, bracelets and necklaces by length and style of chain, choose gems and charms and monogram the pieces with initials or even engrave them with names and phrases. Little girls, aged 4 and older, also have their own line of jewelry called “Mini Delicate Raymond” with extenders. The pieces conceptually grow with the girls and the little ones can have “Mommy & me” experiences.
With just $1,000 in start-up capital, Michelle’s childhood dream has blossomed into a reality when Delicate Raymond was launched in 2005 and it seems to have flowered and grown tremendously. The goal at hand was to surpass all trends to produce timeless, affordable and sustainable pieces and she did just that.
This past summer, Zimmerman, who also has had a very successful presence in Los Angeles, opened a ‘pop-up store’ from June 2 to August 14, 2012 just down the street from this new flagship store. She introduced jewelry lovers to her amazing merchandise and this latest store follows on the heels giving loyal clients an opportunity to continue to adorn themselves with all of Michelle’s creations.
The jewelry bar also showcases an impressive assortment of vintage costume jewelry very reasonably priced at only $5 created especially for fall. To accompany that theme, the new location is furnished with velvet high back chairs and ornate mirrors.
The Delicate Raymond line stands out for being lightweight and elegantly detailed. Silver is united with 14K gold chains with semi-precious stones, pearls and crystals. The jewelry ranges from $40 to $300 and has been featured in ‘W’, InStyle, People Stylewatch, Lucky, US Weekly and Woman’s Day magazines.
If you don’t happen to be near the New York City area, Zimmerman’s creations are sold nationwide at fine boutiques including Ron Robinson at Fred Segal in Los Angeles, Nina at Fred Segal in Santa Monica and in Tokyo, Japan. The online experience is always a good way to create one-of-a-kind statement pieces. Just go to www.delicateraymond.com.
‘Delicate Raymond’ is accessible to you day and night with some of the most stunning jewelry you will ever see and you can call it your own.
