The scuba diving world has gone from the deep blue sea to the runway.

McQ Resort Collection 2012 is the newest diffusion line by the house of British couturier designer, Alexander McQueen. Inspired by the sleek wetsuit worn by scuba divers, the clothes fit tight to the body in strikingly bright colors. Hugging the runway were tank dresses, shift dresses, white and blue leggings with loads of zippers, tank tops and tie-dye wetsuit tees.

Not only are the clothes shaped by neoprene, the material of choice by diving enthusiasts, but the handbags can also be seen in the same material.

Creative shapes were also part of the whole look. A strapless black scuba dress was featured with pink detailing and pointed pockets. A v-neck navy playsuit had capped shoulders and a bright pink corset belt. There was fluro piping and plenty of zippers in the collection.

This playful, fun and sporty line is more affordable than McQueen’s high fashion couture line. This may be because McQueen’s company is targeting a younger, more active consumer.

There seems to be other designers following this trend as well. The scuba style is evident in collections shown by Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Herve Leger, Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Stella McCartney, Chanel and Nicolas Ghesquiere.

How innovative, fashions for the water that can take to the land in fabulous ways!
