Easter Bunny Soon To Arrive At The White House
By: Â Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
The Easter Bunny is on his way bringing tidings of a “Happy Easter” to all. Â He is headed right up to Washington, D.C.
It is an association, by memory, that we tie together Easter and the event that has become quite a tradition at the White House.  It is once again time for the White House Easter Egg Roll which will mark its 136th anniversary in 2014.  This is, by far, the largest annual event that takes place at the White House, drawing a very diversified crowd, from babies to grandparents.Â
Preparation is now underway for this big day which will take place on Monday, April 21, 2014. Â Children of all ages are already excited. Â All the festivities will be focused on the South Lawn of the White House. Â This year in support of the First Lady’s ‘Let’s Move!’Â initiative, health and wellness will be promoted with the theme, “Hop into Healthy, Swing into Shape.” Â The event will feature live music, sports courts, cooking stations, storytelling and the best part of all, the Easter egg rolling.
Back in March, the colors for the souvenir eggs were revealed, giving us bold and brilliant hues to swing right into Spring. Â Green, blue, orange and pink were the chosen colors and each egg has the stamped signatures of the President and First Lady. Â A commemorative purple “Bo and Sunny” egg is even included in the 2014 5-pack Collector’s Egg Set only. Â The online Easter Egg store can be found at www.recreation.gov. Â All children, 13 years and younger, that actively participate in the Roll will be given one of these souvenir eggs to call their own.
There will be a spectacular talent line up to make this Easter Egg Roll even more special than years past.
This yearâs special guest is 12-year-old singing sensation, Cam Anthony. Anthony will sing the National Anthem as well as perform on the Rock ânâ Egg Roll Stage.Â
DJ Beauty & the Beatz, Ariana Grande, Candice Glover, R5 featuring Ross Lynch, DJ Young1, and Sesame Streetâs Mando, Rosita, Abby Cadabby, and Cookie Monster, will perform on the Rock ânâ Egg Roll Stage. The Official Emcee of the 2014 White House Easter Egg Roll is Tommy McFly, who will introduce acts on the Ellipse music stage. The United States Marine Corps Band will perform American classics.Â
Readers on the Storytime Stage will be Jim Carrey, Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri, former NFL player and NASA astronaut Leland Melvin, DJ Lance Rock, Debby Ryan from the Disney Channelâs JESSIE and Sesame Streetâs Mando, Rosita, Abby Cadabby, and Cookie Monster.
